I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Farmington PD? Does anyone know how much starting pay is? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Farmington, Livonia, and Wayne appear to be very good outfits. I have trained many dozens of their officers in the reserve academy over the last 16 years, and they always seem to send good recruits. I do not know what their starting pay is.

I grew up in Oak Park, across the street from the director of public safety. Oak Park had one of the first public safety departments in the nation, and departments from around the world visited them to study their very successful system. The chief used to conduct an informal survey of area police department (regarding salaries for cops) prior to contract time, then he would top all of them. Lots of action in Oak Park these days, considering they have their share of bad guys and that Eight Mile Road is on the border.

I don't know anything about Saline.

As the previous response states, Oak Park is Public Safety (Police and Fire). Saline and Farmington are both very small departments. If you want to get involved in the community and be a part of it in a small town atmosphere that is probably what you would get. On the other hand if you want special units and all that type of stuff you will be disappointed. I assume you are talking about Farmington City and not Farmington Hills PD, two different departments.

Livonia is a big city in terms of land size with two major freeways running thru it. It has a large number of officers and all the special units. Do a search, I know they have a web site. Never heard a complaint about it.

Wayne is a smaller department, but not as small as Farmington or Saline (maybe 30 officers). I have a friend who works there and likes it alot. They are close to Inkster which is very rough and I know they stay busy. Also have a small Narc crew and have officer(s) on what is called MSET (Metro Street Enforcement Team) with Westland, Garden City, and Inkster which does street/special investigations. From what I have seen they seem to have it together, or atleast on the outside.

If you are talking about City of Farmington, they are Public Safety and pretty small. Oak Park is larger, and pays WELL. If you are talking about Farmington Hills, they are straight police, are a pretty big department, and take care of their people. I have a lot of friends who work for Livonia, and they seem to be pretty happy there. Lots of opportunities for advancemet & lateral movement. Wayne is a smaller department, and has a pretty good reputation, too. As far as hiring, I think LPD is hiring, or will be testing soon. Wayne is hiring. Unsure about the rest. Hope this helps.
