nypd 12 hour tours [Archive]

any new information on the pilot program for 12 hour tours in nypd? i believe it's three on, three off. i am personally in favor of 12 hour tours. anything for less days of work. i also believe p.d. will get little as in a raise and 12 hour tours will be michaels way of giving something to nypd.

If they go to 12 hr shifts will they implement a mandatory down period such as an officer can't work more than 16 hrs in a row or can't work more than 5days straight?

I know some depts do this, but will NYPD?

the 12 hour days are tooooooo long. i feel wiped out after a set of three. also, if there is no overlap, you can get stuck holding over if something heavy comes in. also, add commuting time, and prepping before and after work, it makes for a lot of time eaten up. pretty much comehome, go to bed, wake up and go to work. stay safe.

I have to say that 12 hour days would be quite long. We have the standard 8hour days 5 days a week. I would like to see maybe 4 10 hour days. I don't think that would be too bad. We are not allowed to work anymore than 20 hours straight, and then it is mandatory that we get 7 hours off for recuperation.

12 hour tours are torture if you work in a busy command. It gets to the point where you have not patience at all with anybody and your pretty much just walking around like a zombie. If I had a choice I would rather do 10 hour tours.
