I heard that the NYPD just went to binding arbitration. What does this mean for the NYPD getting their raise? how much are they asking? When will they find out how much they get? will it be weeks, months, years, before they find out how much of a raise there getting? Also what do you suspect they will get? Any NYPD imput would help, thanks

WELL, LIKE MANY OTHER NYPD OFFICERS AND NYPD SOON TO BE OFFICERS LIKE MYSELF I WILL JUST TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD HOLD YOUR BREATHE ABOUT THE NYPD GETTING A RAISE. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS GRADUATING THE ACADEMY THE END OF THIS MONTH. HE TOLD ME THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A 10% PAY INCREASE. NOW IF YOU FEEL LIKE BEING REALISTIC YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT THOSE FIGURES HAVE BEEN THROWN AROUND FOR YRS NOW. I CANT BELIEVE A DAMN THING THAT THE NYPD SAYS AS FAR AS PAY IS CONCERNED. NOW I COULD BE WRONG BUT IF THEY GET A PAY RASIE AND I EPHASIZE THE WORD "IF" IT WILL NOT BE FOR ANOTHER YEAR OR MORE. MOST LIKELY MORE THATN A YEAR. AFTER THE 9-11 ATTACKS ON THE WTC I REALLY DONT SEE THEM GETTING A RASIE FOR A WHILE BEACUSE THE SHAPE THE CITY IS IN. BUT WE WILL SE WHAT HAPPENS. I HOPE THIS HELPED. GOOD LUCK .

WannabeNYPD:

I think you're a little confused about this.

The mayor threw out 10-pecent raise on a recent radio broadcast and claimed the city couldn't afford more. It got a lot of press but it is a red herring at this point.

The PBA is looking for much more -- at least an increase that will put them on a par with Newark, NJ which would entail about a 23-percent raise (or maybe it is 28-percent...I forget).

They are in binding arbitration with the state PERB so it really doesn't matter what the mayor or the city says. It is out of their hands.

The PBA is arguing that the Board should take into account the compensation given LEOs in surrounding jusristictions when deciding on a fair salary for the NYPD. Who knows if they'll buy that argument. Whether they decide on 0, 10, 20 or even 30-percent is ultimately up to PERB and both parties must abide. The agreement is binding!!!

Apparently the PBA has high expectations becuase they sued for the right to give PERB juristiction over the contract in the first place. Why else would they put all their eggs in this basket if they didn't expect a favorable outcome?

Rumors indicate they should come up with a deal by June. This is a month before the current contract period expires. Therefore, if these rumors have any validty, it will be right back to the table almost immediately.

Just wait and see...whatever will be, will be....

a past ruling legally makes the city have to give the nypd atleast a 22% raise to keep them up to par with the rest of the country....maybe its just bull....but thats what it said from the pba...
