The statute says only FL police officers, correctional officers, or probabation officers can carry a concealed weapon without a CCW permit. FL does allow for people who have a CCW permit in another state to carry in FL with that permit. The FL Dept of State has a list of the states' permits that it recognizes.
Whether a cop will jam up another cop for having their weapon is another question. I personally would not if that cop is not doing something stupid.

FL does offer an out of state CCW. You can get one through the mail and it takes about 120 days from what I've heard. What is confusing to me is a lot of statutes in states read something similar to: "Persons authorized to carry a concealed weapon in their home state may also carry a concealed weapon while in this state, (CCW)".
As a police officer here in CA I can legally carry a weapon concealed. You would think that since my badge and ID is the equivilent of a CCW, (even more so as we aren't restricted from carrying anywhere) it would be recognized as such in FL. Course that's a lot to expect when CA doesn't get their crap together enough to make it legal for out of state officers to CCW here as well off-duty.
At the very least I would hope those states that are "Shall issue" CCW that would allow any citizen to get a CCW to carry, (with the expections such as felon, mental patient, etc) they would extend the same privs. to an out of state off-duty officer.
Oh well... To dream!
