Today i was driving my dad to some store and i got blue lighted. The cop told me he pulled me over for not having a license plate on the front of my car which is illegal in nj, but hardly the crime of the century. I told him the bracket which holds the plate on broke and i didnt buy a new one yet, which is true. He took my info back to his car and came back with summons for having an outdated insurance card. IT EXPIRED 3 DAYS AGO. He didnt give me a ticket for the plate though. I had the new insurance card sitting at home on my desk. Should i try and get this dropped? i know i should have my paperwork in order, but im a student $50 is alot of money to me! Thanks guys.
Alex.

when i write a ticket i always include my PC for the stop. the cop should have written you for the plate also.

when you go to court bring your current insurance paperwork and it will probably get dismissed.

In my state, if within 10-days, you contact the county attorney and can show you had insurance coverage at the time of the stop they will drop the charges. Contact the prosecutor and ask.

In Jersey as long as you show you were actually insured at the time, they will just down grade it to not having the document with you at the present time.

Please not guilty, bring your paperwork and speak with the Prosecutor before going to the judge. After you make a deal with the prosecutor and the judge asks "How do you plead to the lesser charge", you say guilty then

In Hawaii it's about the same way. I always write for insurance, I don't care what the story is. That's why I have to pay uninsured motorist coverage.

Driving without proof of no fault is a court appearance in hawaii and as long as they show that on the date I stopped them they where covered, its dismissed. I write about 4-5 of these tickets a night. No one seems to carry it, or have it. I heard figures like about 40% of hawaii doesnt have the required insurance.

Don't pat it, go to court, show the insurance, you should be ok, you may have to pay court fees though.
