View Full Version : Sniper Training
Does anyone have any or know where to find out some information on a training course for Basic Sniper Training for LE, somewhere in New England.
What are you looking for? A training academy to teach you how to be an sniper? Are you a Police Officer (will it be department sponsored?), Also what state are you in?

Heckler and Koch has Counter-Sniper, Precision Marksman, and Tactical Rifle courses in Virginia and other parts of the United States. Although these H&K courses are not held in New England, at least they're on the east coast. Go to the "Training" section of their Website at:

COURSE DESCRIPTION (5 days): The Operational Tactics, Inc. Police Sniper School will be held August 19-23, 2002, in Worcester, Massachusetts
http://www.operationaltactics.org/training/massachusetts/worcester.html
Sig also has a sniper course in NH if this isn't what your looking for then PM me and I will give you a contact in MA. the marine Corp runs a LE course (5 days) at there NC school and it's free (Just have to pay for the chow hall) the only draw back is there is a waiting list unless you have a HOOK.
After posting my post I noticed a typo it should read Marine Corp. I wanted to catch it b-4 Krallum came knocking on my door.

In the future, just click "edit" on your own post to fix errors. It's a cinch!

OTI.
A little info on this course, I have a buddy thats a instructor for them and we were both instructors together at the Marine Corp scout Sniper School. It's a very active course with a little more shooting then you would find at the other major schools. I would rate this company in the top three and plan on going to the course in Worcester, MA also. They only thing I would ad is be SURE you have some range time prior to attending this or any sniper school. Yes it doese say it "will benefit officers without sniper experience, as well as veteran sniper" but you should have the basics down to get the most out of the course and this could be done by hooking up with a LEO sniper be it with your dept or one close to you.
Good luck.

Thats the one I would recomend as well. I know a few Mass cops who went through the course. They said it was great. There is not to many in New England actually. I know there are alot in the south, Texas area etc...
DELC.
Good observation I stand corrected.
Thanks.

This is an area I am interested in to. I was an MP in the army and did a lot of MOUT training but was never able to get into the sniper course. This has helped me on the job but I want to get on the ERT team and some type of training in this area would really help me, because, from what I understand they are looking for someone who has training in sharp shooting/sniper training.
For all you LEO that are looking for Sniper Schools in the NE area I will get you the information in the next few day's. sorry for the delay but it's been a busy week.

Ok here is "Most" of the info that I know of for LE sniper courses in or around the NE area.
Operational Tactics, INC (OTI)
Police sniper school Worcester, MA 5 days @ $549.00 Per student
Date: aug 19-2002. Great course for the first timer but be sure your in shape and you have some range time prior to attending.
Sigarms Acedemy.
Tactical Marksman Epping, NH 5 Day's at $695.00 Per student
Dates: May 13-17 and September 30 - Oct 4
Good school and very hands on the training Director Bank Miller runs a first rate operation. You are also able to get a discount on Sig weapons after the course. Sig will lend you there there weapons (SSG3000) at no cost but as with ALL the schools/course you must bring your own ammo.
Smith & Wesson Firearms Academey.
Tactical Scope Rifle Dates May 13-17 and Oct 21-25 Price $900.00 Per student. This is a good school but not one I would or have gone to myself. The price is high and training is so so you get more for your time and money at other schools.
Remington you would think would run a course but it's not the case they only have Armor's courses.
If your able to get down south or out west your choices of schools are great and you will get the training your looking forI.E Blackwater, Thunderranch, Gunsite, Snipercraft(FL) and the #1 Tac school in my mind Tactical Firearms Training team (TFTT) run by former Marines.
The MSP "MIGHT" be running a LE sniper course this summer but it's still up in the air. This brings me to another point if your close to a big dept get in touch with there SWAT/SRT unit and see if there holding any training courses.
Hope this helps.

I have been through the H&K Tactical Rifle and its was pretty good I recommend it prior to a sniper school.
DEASPY.
How doese FLETC work there courses for local LEO? Do you contact them and try to get a seat in a class?
To tell you the truth, I am not really sure. I would contact the POC listed on the web page. I know that a couple of guys in my guard unit who where local cops in Brunswick went through the course and loved it....
if the POC doesn't work try 912-267-2666. Mr. Hillegass (firearms instructor) should be able to put you in touch with someone to help you.
I am betting it is just a money thing, pay and go....
take care,
JH
I will check into it this week and post what I find out.
Good info thanks.

I have contacted FLETC and they have been nothing but HELPFULL. This seems to be the best kept secret out there so if your active LE I would look into what they have to offer as to training courses. The website is http://www.fletc.gov/tmd/cotp/pdf OR http://www.fletc.gov/osl/osl_home.htm
As for the LEO USMC Sniper Course I'm sorry to say it's full.
