There is strong rumor control here about IRS instituting a hiring freeze. Something about them being seriously overbudget. You IRS types may want to touch base with your respective POCs and follow up. I don't mean to unneccessarily scare anyone, but I think you should be aware of this latest development. I didn't get the information first hand, because I wasn't at our class party this weekend, but according to several students, one of our instructors (IRS type), just got handed his 30 day notice. That is one of those bad notices. He's a retired IRS guy, brought back Post 9/11. According to him, IRS is over by $9M and several IRS instructors are being put on the beach. Even more interesting, is that two of our CI classmates that were IRS, were dismissed for academics. Early reports indicated that they would be recycled, but that has now changed. It seems they will not be retained by IRS in an 1811 slot.

You are right on and it is not a rumor. Due to assigning resources over to terrorism the budget is very tight and IRS will be over budget at its current hiring rate, therefore they have cancelled all hiring and training until further notice. And yes, if you make below an 80 on a CITP test you get a warning and the next time you are gone (its is 70 percent based on FLETC rules but IRS calls for an 80, kind of unfair but that is the way it goes).

I don't have a dog in the fight, but for what its worth, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. However, I think this just reinforces a point we've disscussed here......SHOTGUN those apps out there. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
