Dear Bros and Sis,

I just came to the realization that federal jobs are really difficult to get and it is competitive as hell. Alot of people can't get passed though the testing phase. Sometimes I think it is an act of god in which helps people get the job. I don't think that is far fetched. Is it worth the wait and heart ache? That depends on the individual and their particular circumstance.

Gonzo brought up a good point though, "are you just becoming an 1811 just to obtain the title special agent?" If that is the case, think long and hard. Any thought.

I'v been with ATF for a little over a month now and can't say enough good things about it. In a word it's, awesome! Worth the wait you ask. As you could probably guess, I have to say yes. The wait was nearly two years from the time of application too. Of course you also have to take into consideration all the things I did before that to keep building my resume (about 10 years worth). But all in all, it was definitely worth it all.

Coming to work everyday and not having to worry about anything more than training and building criminal cases against guys that really deserve it is just tremendous. If that's the kind of work you want to do, an 1811 position is the place to do it, if you're lucky enough to get a slot. Certainly everyone who is qualified does not get hired. I thank the Lord for my slot and the fact I got my office of choice. I would have taken the job anywhere, however. Good luck and keep at it.
