A few years ago, the Discovery Channel ran some good programs on the LAPD, CRASH, and Officer Pete Casey was in several of these. One of the episodes mentioned that he had a form of cancer, but the program did not follow-up on it. I was curious if anyone knows what happened to Off. Casey?

Yes, Off. Casey is now assigned to the LAPD's 77th Div. as a patrol SGT. Not sure if he still has the form of cancer as last reported. He's one real tough cop.

As someone currently in the process with LAPD, currently a cop, and a cop show junky in general, I loved watching those shows! Wasn't he the guy that got the medal of valor tattoed on his bicep in the one episode?

I'm flying out to LA this weekend for 10 days to redo some of the tests as they've expired and to FINALLY take the polygraph. I've also set up 2 ride alongs, one at Newton, and one at 77th. I know they have you ride with sgts, wouldn't it be something if I got to ride with him?????

Take care,

Kenoshacop

MikeNYPD,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. This has been a long and very trying experience, but something I want to do very much. After taking the written test for them in Oct. 2000, going out there in Jan. 2001 for the writtten/oral psych, PAT, medical, and interview, and then hearing nothing from them until Dec. 2001 when they asked me to come out for the polygraph. Then having it take 3 months (and 35 phone calls) for me to be able to speak with someone to get it set up, which then ended up causing my medical, written psych, PAT and interview scores to expire. It's no wonder they are short 1,100 officers. But from what I've seen on the board, many other applicants have the same problems with dept's all over the country. I guess I should feel lucky though, since I'm already doing the job I love.

Take care,

Kenoshacop

What is going to happen to your user name when you become LAPD?? ;)

You know very well that I wish you the best of luck. Have fun while you are out there while others are stuck up in Minnesota/Wisconsin.

Take care and stay safe.

IF I become LAPD, I'll probably keep Kenoshacop to remember my roots (otherwise known as I DON'T WANT TO LOSE ALL MY POSTS:) . I'll probably have to add a signature explaining the LAPD thing or something. I've got some time to think about it though.

Ahhh, come on K-Cop... I'll help you think of a cool LAPD name that keeps in line with your WI heritage. Since you are definitely joining the LAPD, you better start thinking of a new name now!

Talk to ya,

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the ideas! Unfortunately, I am writing this post from WI and not LA where I'm still supposed to be until the 21st. On monday, I did my oral interview and the written psych, both of which went well, I believe (they mail you the results). Then in the afternoon, I had my initial background interview. At the beginning the supervisor told us that they just wanted us to be honest, and they know that no one is perfect. He then said that our answers to some of the questions will be the basis for our polygraph test, so if we lie on the questionaire, it could be found out possibly in the poly. I answered everything truthfully, just like I did the last time I took the test and thought that the interview had gone very well.

Tuesday morning I showed up for the PAT, and was pulled aside and told that there "were some issues during my background interview" and that the BI felt I should be deferred from continuing the process. They said I have not been disqualified and that it will be reviewed, but for now, I was not allowed to do the PAT, the poly which were scheduled for yesterday, and the medical, and oral psych, which I was supposed to do today.

Instead of spending over $100 a day for hotel/rental car, etc. I decided to get the heck outta dodge and flew back today. I'll be missing my ridealongs, but it seemed kind of foolish for me to spend the money to stay there just to do that.

I want you all to know, that I've done nothing serious, and will admit to a few minor mistakes over the last few years, but I have never been cited, arrested, or disciplined (other than written warnings for squad accidents). I felt that telling the truth would be the right thing to do, and was what they were looking for, as "they know we're human". Unfortunately, I didn't think doing so, would bite me in the ass like it did!

Take care,

Kenoshacop (Looks like this name will be staying around for awhile longer!)

awwwww man... that really blows. that message kinda sounds like my CVSA post in "hiring process"... i get pretty p!ssed off when i read that post because ohh how i can relate to that. IT IS in fact a bunch of bull..... u would think some experience would in fact help but i guess not. i have found that to be true quite a bit around the areas on florida. well what can u do, they did what they did and i would have left too. save that money for something else.....
