Maybe I'm missing the cyberspace boat here, but I was looking on the USMS website, and the only Deputy Marshal positions listed are 082s. Is this because there are no 1811 openings or are the Marshals only taking 082s to fill 1811s? Or, am I just missing something on the website?

These positions that you see are either new positions (which are very few) or positions where districts have had personel retire or have left the service for other reasons. If they are not new hires but retirees or left the service the district that loses the person has the option to take laterals of 1811 within the agency or 082's within the agency or go national competition.

The USMS is not as I understand hiring 1811's at this time. If a district has an opening they choose how it is to be filled 1811 (lateral only), 082(lateral or national competition), 1802 DEO (Lateral or local commuting hire) administrative (lateral, national hire, local communting hire)
