Ok, I’ve been covertly monitoring this site for sometime now…thought I would finally fess-up on who I am: US Army First Sergeant, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)-MOS 55D5M. Currently I’m stationed at Kirtland AFB, NM (Albuquerque). I went over 20 yrs service last week, but SECDEF and SECARMY have decided my services are a little too vital right now. I am in the process with a LE Agency in FL, but because of “stop-loss” I can’t retire on time. Therefore, I will continue to march…:shoot2:
Other relevant info: Airborne Joe, 1st Ranger BN 82-84; EOD Tm Leader 85-92; Sr. Instructor, FBI-Hazardous Devices School 92-95; Analyst/Exploitation NCO, Defense Intelligence Agency-Missile and Space Intelligence Center 95-98; 1SG (706th EOD), Schofield Brks, HI 98-00; Currently in my 2nd 1SG job with a unit that responds to “certain situations” with the Dept. of Energy; Cleared for weird: Dual Security Clearance with DOD (TS-SCI-CNWDI) and DOE (Q); BA in CJ from Columbia College.
I’ve had offers from non-LE (for more money of course), but I still want to work with a team that puts it on the line. Like most of the wannabes that wander this site (some aimlessly), I would like to go Fed-1811…unfortunately, the Gov. continues its policy (6c) of blatant age discrimination. Although, with TSA raiding the other agencies like there’s no tomorrow, we may see 6c go away for veterans…I’m not holding my breath. Apparently, the math on prorating a less-than-20-yr retirement at age 57 is just too complicated.
I enjoy watching the various trials and tribulations of our comrades Mister Jinxy, Nonsequitur, and others. I also greatly appreciate the on-the-nail advice of most of the moderators and ATF-SAC. I don’t feel the need to air my dirty laundry out on the net, so I probably won’t post my “hiring process” stories, but feel free to ask me anything about the Army (You remember us right? Those stress-card carrying, army-of-one types who are currently getting it done in Afghanistan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Bosnia and a 100 other places). No offense to my USMC brethren, but do you guys always have to re-deploy home once the press is gone? USMC Public Affairs first-in, last-out…
