I have been a firefighter for almost 10 years (over 1,000 hrs of training) and an EMT-D for 8 years. I am a member of the Elkhorn City Volunteer Fire Dept/Rescue Squad. I am also a Statewide Fire Instructor certified by the Kentucky Fire Commission. I'm on the SAR (Search and Rescue) team and HazMat Team as well for my department. I'm also an AHA CPR/AED Instructor. I'm also a certified communications officer/911 operator by the Kentucky Dept of Criminal Justice, with endorsements in Crisis Negotiations, Supervisory Techniques, Fire/HazMat operations...and if there's anything else I can think of I'll let you know LOL.
Oh yeah...addition...forgot about high-angle and confined space rescue endorsements, and being a rope rescue instructor, I do that too :-) Good day!

Agency,
I've been looking for a National Reigstry Basic exam since I finished my NYS EMT-D refresher. If you know of any that are scheduled please let me know.
BTW: You do not have to take teh Reigstry test in the same state you are certified in so NJ, NY, PA would all be fine. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am John and this is my Department--
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is located approximately 40 miles west of Washington DC. The current population is appr. 190,000 and we are the fastest growing county in Virginia and the third fastest in the country.
The dept. is a combination career/volunteer system. We have about 200 field staff (paid) and 1,100 volunteers
I am a Firefighter/Paramedic assigned to a ALS chase unit along with my Lt. and usually have a paramedic preceptee assigned to me.
I have been working for the county for nearly 4 yrs and was a volunteer in the system for 7 yrs prior to that.
We are constantly hiring so if anyone in the area would like more information, please contact me.

Now I am probably wrong here but to perform rescue operations such as these shouldn't you have an EMT certification (for the patients sake)?

I work for the Orange County Lifeguard Department. The Lifeguards in this area are contracted to the County and the organization is called US Ocean Safety. We staff 7 year round Lifeguards and have a seasonal staff of 130 Guards.
All unit operators and up are EMT- B's and higher though our scope is only basic, we have nurses, paramedics and we had a Doctor on the payroll once.
We are involved in Open Water/Surf Rescue, Personal Watercraft Operations, Swiftwater Rescue, High and Low Angle Rescue, and Dive Search, Rescue and Recovery.
In our area there is an additional branch to Emergency Services, Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, and Marine Safety.
Its a great job, but the view from my office stinks, 180 degrees of Southern California Coastline.

Former fire service member here. I was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for six years. Over the years, I received training and certification in Confined Space Rescue, HazMat Operations level, Auto Extrication, High Angle Low Angle Rescue, EMT-D, and many more things. My final rank with the department was lieutenant

Blacksheep stated that he had First Responder with AED certifacation. There is not that much difference between EMT-B and First Responder. When I was in the fire service, just about all of the members of our department at the time were ceritfied as First Responders. If any of us wanted to take the EMT program, the department would pay for our books and supplies to go through it.

I've been a volunteer firefighter for the last 4 years. I haven't been active for the past 8 months because I had to move, but I will be moving back and getting active again soon thanks to my new job. I was a Lieutenant of the rescue and the mutual aid engine. My specialty was HazMat. In fact 2 years ago I was appointed deputy hazardous materials coordinator for my county with my HazMat technical knowledge and my academics (I am a chemical and nuclear engineer.) Last year I also became a certified EMT-B. Stay safe

Jim,
I'm a tech in queens (EMT-B on my card cause they hate me so every id or whatever i get (including correspondence during my tech class said EMT-D)) and I went to joisey to get my NREMT-B in December If you can get a copy of the First Responder Press buff paper there's usually an announcement about the class, i have the info somewhere. The guy's name Is Paul Roman IIRC, you have to have taken your state test within a year (felt bad for some guys from PA that were there, they had to do whole NREMT practicals 'cos PA refresher is only written!) Anyway, went over filled out forms took the test and got a nice certificate in the mail with a patch and some other stuff. Email me if you need more info ( murphquake@hotmail.com )

I have been a volunteer firefighter since Jan. of 2002. I am Volunteer Certified Level 1 and National Registry certified EMR. I am on a department in Starkville and also my hometown department in Ocean Springs.
:hustle: Been a volunteer firefighter since May 1977. Was a member of the West Windsor Fire Dept in the Southern Tier of NY for 14 years. Elected chief at age 26 and served 5 years in that position. Been a member of the Boonville NY fire dept since 1991 in the Adirondacks of upstate NY, currently serving on the board of directors. Between the two depts, I have served in every officer postion, including EMS captain (former EMT), and board position. Am approaching 3000 hours of training time, and over 2500 fire calls and 2000 EMS calls. Worked as a 911 dispatcher for eight years, and was recently hired by the FBI, and am supposed to start Oct 20th.
Volunteer EMT-B for the Twp. of Edison (Edison EMS / RESCUE Sq. 2) doing BLS, Rescue, and MCRU. Edison Sq. 2 (http://www.asanet.com/efas2/)
I recently just got hired as an EMT-B by a hosptial based EMS agency called EMTAC assigned to the Northern Division (primarily urban). EMTAC is broken up into 5 units or bureaus; BLS, EMS, ALS, Specialized Transport (Burn, Ciritcal, Neonatal, Peds) and Spec. Ops. The agency has animpecable reputation and is one of the better paying agencies in the state.SBHS EMTAC (http://www.sbhcsparamedics.com/emtac/)

thanks, nice to meet you all
joe
Paid EMT here. Currently working part-time while in school. Volunteered for a year, got my EVOC, worked through all my training and evaluation books, tested and was hired by a local department. We are an ALS service operating out of 3 stations. We cover aproximately 15 square miles and serve about 75,000 residents. Last year we had over 8,000 emergency calls (not including non-emergency transports and wheelchair transports). Were headed for another record breaking year with about 1,300 emergency calls since Jan 1st. Our department is starting a K9 Search and Rescue team in which I recently attended Wilderness Search & Rescue Responder class, hoping to get SAR Tech III certified. Even though our coverage area is more urban, it was good practice setting up Command and learning search techniques. All this while working towards my Criminal Justice degree, striving for a career in Law Enforcement. IMO it doesn't get much better than a public safety job, well, except for the pay lol.

I've been involved with EMS and Public Safety since 1979. Started as a volunteer fireman and Crash Injury Management Technician. Certified as an EMT later that year. I worked my way up through all of Oregon's 6 EMT levels (now there's just the typical three: B-I-P). I became a career ambulanceman in 1983, volunteering in EMS on the side until 1997. Worked in frontier region EMS services (ground and fixed-wing) prior to temporarily re-locating in Southern California.
I'm a Nationally Registered EMT4/Paramedic in Oregon and Idaho, working in the Los Angeles County South Bay area as an MICP. Current assignment with a private ambulance service as Paramedic Operations Manager. Our company has been around since the early 80s and has two divisions, BLS and ALS, both in separate locations. ALS is dual-Paramedic and has two rigs, mostly interfacility transport and some 9-1-1 back-up as well as first-in to area clinics. We run at least 100 calls per month.
To be brutally honest, I hate being in Southern California. I really miss working with and inspiring volunteer EMTs while living in a rural, small-town environment. Currently searching for an EMS administrative/field position in such a setting.
This is my first time visiting your message board. :bounce:
Former Volunteer. Department was annexed, so it is gone forever. Needless to say I didn't go with it. Only rank I had was secretary, cause no one else wanted it.
