NJ DOP firefighter salary?

I'm taking the NJ DOP firefighter exam next month and was wondering what the salary is like for these positions? Is it uniform across the state or are there "better" areas to with "better" pay scales?

Each municipality has it's own pay scale. I BELIEVE, (note: believe) that the pension system for NJ is the same everywhere but that is just a guess. The August 2002 issue of Firehouse magazine features a selection of cities in NJ and what their starting pay and top pay is which is very helpful.

Here are a few examples from that list (Start/Top):
Atlantic City...$39,628/$61,672

Hope that is helpful to you -- pick your residency wisely! I bet working in AC is great but i'd probably throw the difference of my salary back into the "local economy"! Good luck on the exam.
