can anyone tell me a way to get a hitech magnum to shine. i have tried the buring of the shoe polish then rubbing with wet cotton balls but i just cannot get this boot to shine. any suggestions including a new boot close to the hi tech look that will shine will be helpful.

Kiwi Elite liquid polish, a lot less hassle than all that elbow grease you're using now and gets you the same results. If you are spending more than 5 minutes on both boots you're wasting time you could be spending on more important things like having a beer.

Will2335,

Here is a meathod that was taught to me by an old airborne seargent.

Step one. Build up a good base of polish on the boot. It needs to be smooth.

Step two. Using a damp cotton ball, apply kiwi sparingly in circular motions.

this should work for you, the key is the base kiwi build up. Once you have that, the actual shinning of the boots take no time at all and lasts for a pretty long time.

Note: It took a couple of nights to get my first jump boots to have the high gloss finish. I would also be leary of stuff like shape up and other gloss' that you apply an instant shine with. Many will damage the boot over a period of time or peel and crack. Anyway, with proper care your boots should last for a long time. My favorite pair was purchased in 1987 and only resoled once.

good luck

on your next set of boots get Bates Lites Enforcer Series (most galls catalogs have em). These boots are better, stronger more water resistant and cheaper. With that being said they were also easier to get a glass shine on. with just the t-shirt method and kiwi parade gloss.

my .02 cents

Will- I have also used a damp t-shirt(warm water) or (I know this will sound strange) Mom's or Wife's old hosiery. And cotton balls with a little rubbing alcohol. And like deaspy said avoid the instant shine stuff.

What I do on my Bate's is get the t-shirt wrapped around my 3 fingers put it in the polish then in the water and apply it to the boot and polish til a high shine appears. It works for me and the boots shine well this is coming from a novice cadet with little experience shining boots.

You could cheat and buy a factory shined pair. I wore a pair to a police funeral and the drill sgt almost fainted.
