I'm looking at going with this, a local department carries it and really likes it.

My department uses "FREEZE +P". Its made by Aerko International. It contains 1% CS and 1% Capsicum, direct stream, 2 oz canister. It also has an ultraviolet dye in it.

The brand we carry is Bodyguard made by Guardian Personal Security Products. It contains 5% OC at 2 million scoville heat units. This stuff is all food grade pepper, but it is extremely effective.

I personally like (3) products currently available. Fox, Freeze +P or Bodyguard. Right now I have Freeze +P on my rig.

all i can say is stay away from the foam. i was on a ride along and the guy got hit with the foam and slung it back at us. i was reading about this stuff in the new galls though that says it wont go airborne so it wont affect the officer when the collar is in the car.

At the police academy I am currently attending, we are issued CAP-STUN 5% OC pepper spray. I believe that this is the brand that the FBI and the US military uses. We were required to be sprayed so that we could see first hand how this product will affect subjects and to demonstrate to us that we could continue on with our duties if we were accidentally sprayed or if our own OC was somehow used against us. All I can say is that this stuff is nasty and will definately put a "normal" person on thier knees. After being squirted, we all instantly became incapacitated and experienced choking, coughing, our mucus membranes instantly released, and our eyes shut. The best way to describe the intensity of the burn is that it felt like someone took a pot of boiling water directly off the stove and poured it on us. The skin irritation and intense burning was much worse than I expected. The effects lasted atleast 30 minutes, even after using water to flush the affected areas. I am a firm believer in this stuff after the experience and hope to never endure it again! Good luck all and stay clear of the OC spray, save it for the bad guys!

I don't know if I like the CS + OC variants. Here in Wisconsin, only OC is allowed for non-LEO/non-military (no CS, no dyes of any type, etc., just straight OC). I would prefer to carry something that is only OC while off-duty. I have to carry a Mk3 First Defense can on-duty (10%, 2 million SHU).

Now, I carry the stream version. I've been told to use this since it helps keep from being blown back at me, and I can reach out a good 15 feet with it. I've been told to switch to the spray (cone, not the fog type) because I'll generally be in closer than 15 feet when I have to use it and it covers a better area and get inhaled better (supposedly faster acting that way).

I'm looking at Fox Labs 2%/5.3 million SHU product for carry off-duty. Spray (cone) or stream? What about on-duty (if they'd let me switch)?

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I wanted to give a little background first.

Stay safe,
- Steve

I try to say away from anything that is not stream. There are too many variables involved when using this to add to the mix the randomness of spray.

Just my 2 cents.
