Anyone know about FDNY?

I was just curious if there was anyone out there on FDNY and/or knew about the hiring process for them?

Right now things are on hold for FDNY. They currently have a
Probie class that was suppose to start about 2 weeks ago. NYC
is in such a financial mess right now that they are holding off sending anyone thru the academy until at least Dec. possibly
January. They figure they are saving 1.5 million a month. Now they are also talking about closing houses around the city at
rolling days. They will be testing in December (tentative) for the next list. From what I here only about 8,000 applicants. This is
way down from the usual 30,000-40,000.

The department is going thru a really tough time right now.

Due to the hiring freeze and the possible FDNY closing I am wondering if I can get my money back for registering for the test. It does not seem as though I will be hired anytime soon.
