My vest at first seemed to be a bit "short", but that is probably because it is simply a different feel that I am used to.

When sitting, the bottom of the vest comes very close to the top of the duty belt, and extends just beyond the top of the magazine carrier (worn with magazines vertical). Thus any longer, and when sitting, especially in a vehicle, it would be forced up.

When standing however, there is gap between the bottom of the vest and the top of the belt.

Is this gap when standing normal, and how much of a gap when standing would be considered "normal"?

It sounds like you have the appropriate fit. Vests are fitted keeping in mind the notion you will spend a great deal of time seated. You do end up sacrificing some protection while standing for your comfort while seated - the idea being that if your vest made you (even more) uncomfortable, you wouldn't wear it. A proper fit should come to the top of your duty belt while seated.

I agree sounds like it is a fit to me. Keep in mind that your vital organs are what the vest is suppose to protect.

When standing you should have about 3 fingers width between the bottom of the front panel of the vest and the top of your duty belt. It should not be touching when you stand, not should you have more than about 3 fingers width.
