My father is going to buy me a tac. knive of my choice for my academy graduation. I would apprecitate any advice on an upper end knive (will clip on the inside of pocket). A couple of manufacturers I am aware of are SOG, Benchmade, etc.

He said $$ is not an issue!!

Thanks

I have a Kershaw semi auto opening "ken Onion" series. I love it , it keeps an edge and is very durable. Set me back about $78

This is the exact knife I have

I have a Spyderco folding with a half serrated blade, rubber type handle, and belt clip. It set me back about $75 when I bought it 2 years ago. No complaints here, worked for ever job I used it on.

I'm a big Emerson fan...Ontario PD issues the Emerson P-Sark for all their officers, and trains them on using it. There's also a Sark model (I believe the P is the one with the sharp tip...the regular Sark is a blunt tip)...its a great hawkbill blade with a lot of applications...has Emerson's patended "Wave" feature...basically a hook by the thumb disk that catches your pocket on the draw, basically opening the knife for you.

Or if you want a super tactical end all - do all knife, get a Strider GB folder...bigger and stronger than most fixed blades.

As an LEO, get an auto opening Emerson. With combo blade. It will serve you exceptionally well and maintains a fine edge.

Kershaw makes excellent auto-openers. This is a version of the one I carry (I carry the plain edge version, but the serrated blade is probably more practical if you are a patrol cop): http://www.kershawstore.com/k1570st.html

I have had trouble with the liner lock on Benchmade's Mini-AFCK failing on two different knives (Benchmade replaced the first one with the same model and the second one with a different and more expensive model). When the second knife failed it closed on my hand and cut me bad enough to need surgery. If I ever have to replace the Benchmade I have I'll probabley go back to SpyderCo, carried several over the years (always lost them, never broke them) no problems.
Good Luck and stay safe, K9

I have the Emerson CQC-7 and have had it for a few years now GREAT knive with no problems. They also make it in the AUTO but be sure to check your state laws and department SOP. Emerson will also sharpen there product for $5.00 and if you have any of the CQC models it's worth it.

Money isn't an object?

Check out the offerings at www.knifeart.com.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better selection.

Or, if despite the money is no object criteria you want something you'd be less afraid of losing or destroying, give the selection at www.onestopknifeshop.com a look over.

Having used both companies, I can whole heartedly recommend them.

Oh, and you might want to check out www.bladeforums.com for answers relating to all things sharp and pointy.

Let us know what you decide on.

Happy shopping.

BladeArt (http://www.bladeart.com)

Gotta love Blade Art...there are far too many good knife sites on the net.

If you live in the Bay Area, check out Triple Aught Design (http://www.tadgear.com) my new favorite place to stop in a drool
