I have a rather minor question; The US Park Police carry H & K .40's but the model seems rather arcaic. A safety "lever" in the handle that you have to squeeze in order to pull the trigger. Why wouldn't they switch to a Glock or Sig Sauer and is that in the future for the Park Police? Glock is a much better gun for LEO's I think.

I was under the impression that the park police carried P7M8's of P7M13"s in 9mm. I was not aware that H & K made that model in 40 cal. That weapon was the longtime service model of the NJ state police and most of the troopers I know loved the weapon. Shoots well, reliable and safe. I have heard of a few officers lives that were saved due to a supect that took the weapon from the officer but couldn't figure out the operation of the weapon. One drawback is that the weapon is very expensive.

Not being familiar with that particular weapon, I can't say as to it's degree of profiency as a sidearm, nor the rationale for it's being used by one agency more than another.
I can tell you that as a government agency, there are some considerations that go into the mix. One, the selected weapon must be easy to use, maintain and train on. It's usually purchased by bid (low bid wins) and used uniformly over the whole organization. If it's proven to be reliable, it often will remain a part of the inventory until such time as something better comes along (see above criteria). While it's true that the GLOCK has become one of the biggest used weapons in LE, there's plenty out there that still use or allow the carry of other duty weapons.
Have a great day!

I've never seen one either and I carry a H&K USP .40 on duty.

The Park Police does currently carry the H&K P7 which happens to be 9mm. They are in fact trying to secure a contract for a different weapon, partly due to the high cost of the weapon.
