The department I hope to be working at in the future authorizes their officers to carry the following:

Beretta
Glock
Heckler & Kosh
Para-Ordnance
Sig Sauer
Smith and Wesson

*either .45 or 9mm

I have small hands...any recommendations??

Beretta has the L and M models. Both use a 8 round single stick type magazine. Might try the grip on the Cougar series also.

Glocks have a good grip on the 9 and 40s for small hands.

H & K USP compact models have smaller grips than the full size USPs. If you are RICH, one of the squeeze cocker models would be wonderful.

PO makes a single stack 45 now.

Sigs-only shot the 220 in 45. Lust at first sight/shot.

Smith used to make single stack 9mm models-should still.
I like the 4506 in 45, but it gets heavy fast. Pass on the SIGMA series.

Try the Sig 228 in 9mm. You won't regret it.

The officers in my dept. with small hands really like the S&W 99. It has three different interchangeable grips for different hand sizes. Many similarities to the Glock. There has been some reliablity issues but they seem to have worked them out. I have shot the gun and it shoots very well.

I'm pretty sure S&W no longer makes the SIGMA models. I heard a rumor that Glock sued them because internally they were identical.

Glock 19 (9mm) is a good small handed gun. If you want a back-up, try a Glock 26 (9mm).

In addition to all of the above find out what the majority of the officers carry and see if that works for you. The reasoning is if you ever need more ammo or have a mag problem you can share with your partner you will find most dept. that give you a choice there is one that the majority carries. Of course if it doesn't fit your hand that is another thing best advice is find out the majority then go out and at least hold each if possible fire each depending on where you are some gun stores let you try different guns before you buy they don't have to know that you are not buying right at that moment. The best weapon is one that fits you
