Is anyone here issued the "Holy Grail" of glocks, the Glock 18????
In case some is wondering why I called it the "holy grail", it is because it is a SELECT FIRE version of the G17 in 9mm. I have heard rumors that glock is testing select fire versions of the G21 & G22.

I've always thought that the G18 must be about impossible to control. There's an airport PD in Europe that uses them and I read some years back that a dept. (I think it was Marietta Ga. PD) was issuing them to selected members of their SWAT team.

I used to think the same thing until I saw a video of a full auto Glock being fired. One video was of an actual G-18 and the other showed an illegal modification done to a stock G-17 to make it full auto.
In both videos (different videos, different shooters) the gun seemed very much in control. A little front flip as you would expect from any full auto, but overall it appeared to be very steady. They are now also offering the G-18c (Compensated) that seems to address even some of the minor flip.
Never shot one... Would love to try it though!

The 1 time I fired a g18, I found out it's best accuarcy is in short bursts. Even with the 33rd mag, it did not take long to empty the mag!!!!

Sign me up for shooting the 18 too, would love to try it but probably won't ever get near one.
My G22 went full auto on me one day at the range (hunting club). The first time it suprised the Holy Crap out of me. After that , I was ready and was not to hard to shoot a short controlable burst. I only shot it that way for that day and then had it fixed. Aperently, and I am not sure since my old man had it fixed for me, one of the metal inserts was was too soft? As long as you pulled the trigger it would keep the firing pin forward? Anyway, just thought I would share that. Gun was purchased in Dec, 91. Happened after about 500 rounds and never again after repair.
If you cant beatém, Glockém....
take care,

Our sister service here purchased 2 for protection details. They only worked for a couple of months. After that, they were always giving the instructors a hard time. The most persistent problem was the selector lever. Anyone had any problems with it?
This was 5 years ago.

Like anything, it takes practice to be proficient. You would be surprised how many small Depts. have a couple of these in their inventory. Most that I am aware of use the after-market selector on the back plate method, as opposed to a true G18. It allows them to move it from gun-gun easily. Relatively useless for the LEO on the street, if your semi-auto is not good enough, you want to step up to reall Full-auto, like an M4, not another pistol.

When I went through Glock armorers school, we were told that three agencies use the 18 as their duty sidearm. I don't know which ones.
When I went through firearms instructors school, we got a chance to fire the 18. It wasn't too bad, but I am used to M16A1's, M2 HB .50 cals, M249's, M60's and other FA weapons.
