CCW for LEOs is usually no big deal in California (usually). But what about the spouse of a LEO? Would your Sherrif or Chief consider a spouse to have good cause simply due to proximity? Anyone have any experiance with this in California or any other discretionary state?

My spouse always wanted me to teach her how to shoot, but I've always resisted. I don't think I would want her to be handgun familiar when she gets pissed. Course it depends on what kind of temperament your spouse has when she gets pissed. Just my 2-cents.

I hear ya on that one. 28 days out of the month my wife would be the best cop I can imagine, but a couple of those days had better fall on her weekend if you know what I mean :)
She's actually a heck of a good shot and can out drive most of my friends. I would love to teach her partner tactics and have her watch my 6. And that brings up another question. If you are driving with your unarmed spouse who drives? I would think that the passenger should be the one armed, and this brings up all sorts of scenarios. Oh well,

It has been my personal exp. that spouses of LEO's may have a *SLIGHT* advantage in getting a CCW permit, but not such a great advantage over the average citizen. As far as your statement of teaching your wife "partner tactics". I'm not sure I would agree or understand why you would want your spouse to train for, or act as your partner in any situation. I would think the best training you could give a spouse is how to get to safety, give a description on a phone to the police, and/or be more aware of his/her surroundings to try and spot a bad person, or situation, *BEFORE* being in or around that bad person/situation.

As far as driving... I'm also unsure of why it would matter if you (as an armed LEO) drove the car or rode as a passenger. Certainly things can happen we don't expect, but to go through all those steps and have all that on your spouse's mind as well as your own 24/7 seems a bit stressful to me.

I personally sit with my face to the door when we go out and eat and I would have to say that is probably the one officer/safety trait I haven't been able to shake. Now when we go out and eat my wife always lets me sit down facing the door. No real thought to it anymore, but even that somtimes makes us feel like we can't relax or enjoy our time out (something as small and simple as that habit). Enjoy your off time... Unless your wife becomes a LEO, let her maintain some of her civilian comforts!

Good luck!
