I just discovered this forum when one of the threads got moved to the Federal Questions forum. Since then it has been pretty much dead! I was just getting into it!
I figure the only way to get things going is to say something controversial (but not completely outrageous).
So here goes: Anyone who has never been convicted of a drug related crime should be eligible for any position in law enforcement. My argument is that only serious dealers or those people not cooperating would be prosecuted. Everybody else deserves a second chance.
I won't waste my time on this.

Ah but at least you responded! At least it shows you are looking at this forum!
Maybe you would instead like to comment on the new movie coming out about DEA agents. Cant recall the name (saw the preview this weekend at the Lord of the Rings movie) but Vin Diesel plays an extra super macho dude from the 'hood who joins some DEA task force.
Actually I think his character claims to be effective because he comes from the projects and nobody can tell he's a cop. Perhaps he had some past use issues that he was able to overcome?
(oops it s just a movie)

I was just trying to get some discussion going here. My suggestion was not a serious proposal but just a stink bomb to get something going.
I'm glad people are reading though! I was afraid this was a dead board.
This is a great forum to moderate, because you only have to check it once a month. Truth is DM and I only tolerate disagreement from each other and delete the rest. Actually, disagreement here gets way emotional and often results in the thread getting canned. Ah well, fun while it lasts.

It is interesting to see the comments though. I was wondering why these discussions get so serious, and I came up with a theory: the people reading this board who are "on the job" work with drug users and dealers on a daily basis and get to see what this is really all about. The rest of us can sit back and philosophize about victimless crimes.
It has helped me to revisit some of my thoughts, which, coming from California originally, tend toward the more philosophical. I guess when you arrest these guys and find not only thousands (millions?) of dollars and mucho big guns the philosophy kinda takes a back seat.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Operators always have issues with theorists, and always will.
Two different worlds. Young folks in HS and college, dabbling a bit and looks to them like everybody is handling things no problemo. Our world, nobody is handling shit ok, dead kids, dead junkies, dead cops, guns and money and corruption everywhere. Where did the folks in our world come from? Turns out not everybody in HS and college was handling things no problemo in the first place.
Kind of a where you sit is where you stand issue. Hate drugs, hate middle class kids who think life is so hard you have to self medicate your way out, hate stupid arguments that other stuff is worse like it makes this crap ok. Kind of like what difference does the distinction between murder and manslaughter make to the dead? Lots of bad illegal and legal stuff out there, get a grip, make some decisions and try to do the right thing.
