I'm in the market for a good inside the waistband holster for a Sig 226 (preferably with a thumb break). I don't plan on carrying that hand cannon stuffed down my pants for very long, (until I scrounge up some $$ for a more concealable off duty gun) but I'm not too keen on just a pancake holster for off duty...I'd like to be a little more on the down low..

Any thoughts?????

I have a FIST ultra thin kydex IWB for my Sig 220 and am happy with it, it only cost $42 or so. If you have more money, Pocket Concealment Systems out of Baltimore has a great holster in their XDC, or I was just checking out a Galco Royal Guard. Either of these are nice but your looking at about $100 to touch either one.
Good Luck, K9

Greg Kramer makes great holsters, if you're willing to spend a little more $$$. He makes about 4-5 different IWB's, ranging from $47-$115. The IWB clip holster is about $47 which is cheaper than the Galco equivalent. If you are willing to spend the $$$, his holsters are top of the line, will last forever.

I've used a couple of his IWB holsters myself for a Sig P228 and P229. ("the 1 1/2"). I love them.

I also have a Galco Scout that I use pretty frequently; costs a little more than the Kramer equivalent. (sig P228).

Unfortunately, none of these have the thumb break you were looking for. Greg Kramer, since he custom-makes the holsters, may be able to make modifications on a holster if you talk to him. If he can do them, he is willing to try it.

Hope this helps.

I just got this holster in the mail today.

So far I would say thumbs up. I've only CCed with it once in public but I wore it in my home office all day. It was pretty comfortable and no complaints. The directions recomends carrying twords the front of the body, but I didn't see how this was possible... Instead I carry it on my strong side far enough back so the butt is in the small of my back. Seems to be comfortable in my car also (Pathfinder).

EDIT: I carry a Glock 19 as my main gun!

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I went with a Don Hume IWB that had a thumb break. I just ordered it online so I'll let you know if it's worth it.
Any one have any experience with Don Hume leathergoods or ordering from Gunner'sAlley.com??

Thanks again.

Notes on the belly band (above); I carried this for several months and it's very comfortable and keeps the weapon very close to your body (thus it's very concelable).

The only drawbacks are that it can be difficult to get to quickly, especially if you're wearing a shirt that's tucked in. Also, make sure you get one that actually has a HOLSTER-shaped pocket for the weapon and not just a big square pocket: in the square pocket, the weapon tends to slip down into a position where only the butt is above the band, meaning that it's difficult to get your hand around it to get it out. The one in the photo looks like the better kind, with the molded holster-shaped pocket, but there are a lot of crappy ones out there (I know - I have one!).

I recommend a quality Kydex (or comparable) or leather.

In no particular order:

Rafters
Blade Tech
Sparks
Rosen
Alessi
FIST
Kramer
A host of others... TFL, thehighroad, and 1911forums have gobs of "what holster" threads.

And if you do not already know, your holster is only as good as the dedicated gun belt it is used with. Don't skimp on the belt. (Rafters, who used to be Wilson Combat's leather goods manufacturer, makes excellent belts for what they change.)

i got my Don Hume IWB holster on Tues. It's great, it took some getting used to but it seems to be pretty good quality, etc.
i ordered it from gunnersalley.com. they didn't have it so they called Hume for me to check it out. i think the whole ordeal took less than a week.
Top notch!!

I just wanted to mention, that I have dealt with the folks at GunnersAlley.com and they have ALWAYS been extremely helpful and giving their input on selections I have made. I would recommend them for any holster needs.

I've been carrying either a Beretta 92FS full size or 92FS Type "M" in a Bianchi 3S Pistol Pocket holster.

Holsters are a confusing thing. If you're into guns, you'll spend years trying to find one that works. I really like the 3S and I've been using it every day for a long time. If possible, however, I'd go to a shop and try a few.

You can get clip-on holsters for cheap. I have a couple, but in general I'd avoid them. I have one by Aker that works well because it has a piece of metal that wedges the holster into the belt (so you won't draw the holster with the gun).

Holsters like my 3S have one or two leather (or Kydex) loops that attach it to the belt. This makes the holster more stable and usually allows a bit more adjustability. The loop on my 3S can be adjusted 360 degrees.

There are other manufacturers of holsters, like Mitch Rosen, Aleese (Sp?), Kramer, Fist, etc. that have two belt loops that are placed on opposite sides of the holster. In most cases the holster is elongated in a "pancake" style. This type of holster is very stable but not adjustable. If you want the gun to be in the same position every time for the draw, then this holster is for you.

Soem holsters are designed to attach to the belt, but allow you to tuck the shirt in over the holster. The only thing visible is the belt loop or the "J Hook" and you can tuck your shirt in.

Beware of gimmick holsters that make your gun "disappear". They may work for you but don't buy them because the advertisement says it'll work. It may not.

I've spent hundreds of dollars for holsters for many different guns. I still haven't found one that's "perfect". I really like my 3S, and so far it's the best I've used, but there's many more out there that I haven't tried.

Long story short, if possible, see what you like before you buy.
