Any NYPD know where to get a speaker/mic for our radios?? I've seen guys with different versions (antenna, no antenna, etc.) I can't find much online....
I've heard they're about $100......
Thanks a lot.

I think portable radio mic’s are brand name and even model number specific. I’ve seen ear phones that will fit several different brands, but not mic’s. I would contact a store that sells or repairs whatever radio brand name you have. You should be able to find one in NYC.

Here's a little tidbit of info I learned about radios and speaker mics. When you use a speaker, approx. 1/3 of the radio's strength is absorbed by your body during transmissions.

I have a friend from the Border Patrol who is now with NYPD, we were talking about this last week. In the BP we had Motorola Sabre radios with the speaker/mics and ear pieces, a very convenient setup most of the time. Now he carries a radio minus that setup and wanted the speaker/mic so that he could block out the city noise while monitoring radio traffic and keep his hand free while transmitting. He hasn't had a lot of luck looking for the right parts and they just found out that they are getting new radios soon so decided to wait to find out just what the new equipment is going to be. Good luck, if you find a good setup let me know so I can pass it on.

Hmmm..I ditched the speaker-mic, and use a two wire set-up: one for an earpiece, and one for a microphone. The push-to-talk button is either on the radio adaptor (that plugs into the old speaker-mic spot) or on the mini-mic, which is hidden between my uniform shirt and vest.

We have just purchased a new headset from this group. It is similar to what many Law Enforcement agencies carry. They belong to another group called TEA.

We bought the bone in ear mic, with the occasional swimmers kit. It is submersible to 1/2 an atmosphere and uses the vibration of your jaw bone to transmit, so no wind durnig your transmission.

They also will make anything for you custom if they don't advertise it.

PM me if you want a contact number...the website should give you all you need.
