Has anyone on this board used the Springfield Armory XD Sub Compact?

I was reading about it and I understood it was Gun of the Year or something like that?
I may be mistaken on the above comment.

I was just wondering what people thought of it and any first hand accounts of it use friendly features.

Also wondering what people thought of the grip safety?

Does it only come in 9mm??
I prefer the 40cal and like a glock. (Not looking to start a debate..LOL)

Thanks for the input.

I haven't handled the XD at all, a gun guru friend of mine handled one recently and declared it a Piece of $hit (he's a major Glock fan though).
As far as the 9mm goes for off duty (or on for that matter) bullet placement is key followed by bullet design, the size and energy of a bullet is a distant third. If you shoot a .40 or .45 well they give you an edge on the 9mm. That said, the 9 works well for many people and depts. I carry a Glock 26 off duty currently. I think the 9mm is light if your shooting through cars or against dangerous animals, your better off with a more powerful hand gun or better yet a 12 gauge. But I carry a nine from time to time and don't feel naked.
