Anyone know what departments use the H&K P7 hand gun? Note the H&K P7 is different than the H&K USP or any other hand gun for that matter. Basically it is single-action only with a squeeze cocker.

I think there were like two state police departmetns that use it. I am just curious since I am considering going into law enforcement.

I have read (and observed) that the P7 can make a significant difference, if it is the only firearm you use, which is my approach for now.

I think at one time the New Jersey State Police carried them. But I believed that they have went to another weapon.

The only agency that I know carries the P7 right now is the US Park Police. When I interviewed with them I was amazed that they carried it ( because of how unfamiliar it is to most people and it takes a while to get competent with it.) The Park Police carries the P7M13 model. (I know when I grow up I want to get one but $1200 is a lot to fork out.)

I am currently at FLETC for the US Park Police and I can tell you the H&K P7 is the weapon we are carrying. We have a choice between the P7 M8 or the P7 M13, everyone is using the M13 except one person. The only difference in the two, besides the number of rounds, is that the M8 is easier to conceal as well as lock the slide back.

The NJ State Police use to carry the M8 but switched to the Sig Sauer about 2 years ago.

The Park Police are currently in the process of testing new weapons. The H&K is not widely used anymore and parts and maintenence are expensive. Last I heard we are the only US department still using it. Personally I don't mind the weapon, it is very accurate and very safe. The only drawbacks to it are the gas port which gets very dirty and the fact that after firing alot the gun gets very hot, sometimes hot enough to burn your hand.

If I can answer any questions on it since I use it every week let me know,

JAY

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department approves it for off-duty use or as a backup, but not as primary duty weapon.

I have the older PSP version. They're great guns, but I must ask, do you have one already or are you thinking of purchasing?

This site is dedicated to the P7. The P7 is considered to be one of the most accurate compact pistols in the world.

The troopers on the turnpike here in Kansas used to carry the 13 shot model. They are funded by the turnpike auth rather than the state. Since I am in the west part of gods country and havnt seen the turnpike in years, I dont know if they still carry them.

After about a year of research (we read about a half dozen books) and a few classes my wife and I decided to purchase our first firearms. This was back in 1999. I was fine with the two or three pistols we considering. But it was my wife that really like the H&K P7 when she test fired it along with the others we were considering. She did shoot the H&K P7 noticeably better.

So we have two H&K P7 M8’s. The M13 was a little too large for her hand and we wanted firearms that we could switch magazines. In fact hers has the rare factory nickel-platting finish.

We were considering the PSP version with the European magazine release on the pistol butt, but we figured that since we had the single stack magazine with less rounds, we would opt for a slightly quicker magazine release.

I have been intending to have our magazine release and slid-release button taken down a little but have not gotten around to it.

Anyone notice your thumb hitting the magazine release when firing? This happens to me once in a while.
