What is everyones definition of drug experimentation?

I'm no expert on this, but I would say 1 - 5. I wouldn't consider smoking pot 20 times "experimenting". You already know what it does to you...the experiment is over.

I voted the general policy as I know it, but truth is if you get over 5 or 6 times, you are done with the experiment and need to be publishing the results of your research.

i think it would also depend upon the age of the experimenting. when i was 16 i was caught up in a little crazy world because of a friend i met, but eventually woke up. but my total use of pot was like 8 or 9 times, i know not 10 because that would be a little too much i believe. just my 2 cents, hopefully i don't get torn apart.

1-5 seems like the call

i vote 1-5 also. i also agree that 15-20 plus times using drugs ceases to be an experiment and becomes a hobby. unlimited drug use with the "i was dumb and in college" caveat is a crock.

I think a lot needs to be taken in consideration. I smoked grass when I was a teenager, it was a few times. However, it was 15 years ago. When does that quit being held against me?
People do grow up.

Some people are always going to hold it against you and think that it was wrong to do it once. I personally believe that if you get a job as a LE the powers that be have looked at it and think it has been long enough to forgive or overlook anyway.

I would think anything over the first time. I think if it is more than once you are doing something other than a experimentation

UN_Cop,
I sympathize. My last experience with MJ was when I was 19 (12 years ago) and that was the only incidence over the age of 18. During freshman and sophomore high school years, I'm counting 12 times, but it sort of is odd to me that you are supposed to be able to count since I was typically drinking as well as smoking and had NO idea I'd ever need to know how many times. Anyway, point being, while I completely understand the hiring requirements and that so many cops have been way cleaner than me (and kudos to them!!), I do think that over 18 ought to factor in a lot more (or at least I wish it did). I definitely think my 13 was past the experimentation point, though! On the one hand, I'm SOOOOO glad that the hiring policies are so strict - on the other hand, I believe I would make a darn good cop. I guess, as someone alluded to earlier, that's up to the big Guy upstairs, but I'm still HOPEFUL!!
And yes, if I ever have kids, I hope I teach them better than to do what I did. :crying:

I have told more than one agency, "If you are looking for a Saint, I am not the one." We trip, we stumble, and on a few occasions we fall. Anything over ten years....give me a break. I know I will draw heat on this one but so what. If you want it go for it! I have been a cop for ten years, a Bachlors degree, and a commissioned officer in military intel. It is safe to say I have come along way sice I was a teenager. Good luck and take care.
