View Full Version : Getting started in MA
I’m not sure if anyone is even near my location but I’ll ask anyway. I recently finished my EMT-B cert process and I’m looking into the career change. I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a good private ambulance company in southeastern MA. I know of 2 (AMR and Fallon) and plan on contacting them but I’d like to know if anyone has any experience in the area and maybe can give me some pointers on getting started. Eventually I’d like to end up w/ my paramedic lic. and work on a local fire dept. We all have to start somewhere. Thanks in advance.

I hope you know what you are getting into. It is not easy to make a good living in private EMS. Many providers find it necessary to work two jobs. Especially at the BLS level. Although I have not worked in MA I am somewhat familiar with AMR in general. They are a large company with operations in many states. Each office usually has it's own contracts regarding 911 service, inter-facility transports, etc. One officemay be busier than another.
Like most national companies, there is more oppportunity for advancement, training, mobility, etc. The downsides are that management probably will not know you as a person. Your are a SSN on the payroll.
Good Luck.
Chase your dreams, and keep the faith.

Eddie O...was scrolling through some old post here when I found yours...prior to getting into LE I worked 6 years in the Boston area as a EMT Basic...If you have still any questions about some of the private ambulance companies in Mass...let me know..I've either worked there or know somebody that's worked there :D
