Hi -- about the FBI fitness test -- the sit ups are counted within a two minute period. Does that mean you can stop and rest in-between sets or take as many breaks as you want, or just that you must go continuously and 2 minutes is the max?

Related to this, when doing pushups, pullups, etc. can you rest for a breath or two at the top or bottom, respectively?

thanks!

If you go to the FBIJOBS website there is a pre-Quantico kit you can and should read, its a great resource.

- Push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups are all continuous motion exercises.
- Sit-ups are timed 2 minutes max.

Thanks -- yeah I have all the materials and I've been through the online stuff. I'm just wondering if they will allow you to even pause for, say, 2 quick puffs of air, like at the top of a pushup, or if any pause at all will end the contest.

Also, I've read that with situps you are better off going VERY slowly. I can't see the difference between pausing for 1 second on the bottom of every rep, or whipping out 20, taking 2 breaths, another 20, etc. I just don't know how strict they are. I think your reps are counted by fellow classmates -- is that right?

I disagree with going very slowly on the situps. What I think you should do is figure out a pace that allows you to do situps continuously for the two minutes, and improve this pace as you train. The reps will be counted by the person holding your feet.

Don't know about the pushups, but I can tell you this about pullups: they're the "dead-hang" type so you'll have to pause briefly at the bottom of each one. Doing a kip at the bottom (kind of bouncing right back up) makes pullups easier, and they won't let people do that.

From what I read in the Pre-Quantico Kit is that the sit-ups are a 2 minute timed continuous motion event. I am interpreting it as you may not pause.

However, I am curious if once your elbows touch your thighs are you allowed to continue the upward motion to go between your legs ... I know for me this seems to help me get a few more.

A question I have regarding pull-ups is can you move your legs at all? I know when I do pull-ups ... even in the Army ... I always found myself pulling my legs up...not quick enough to give a benefit...more of muscles contracting.

For sit-up's I am finding that relaxing on the way down enables me to do a lot more.

If you pause during any of the exercises they will warn you and then stop the exercise. You must keep moving. This is a big change for those of us in the military. S/F GRG

This is a huge difference from what I am use to in the Navy. I am use to pumping out about 60 situps relaxing for about 15 seconds and then pumping out another 20 or so. This I am going to have to work on!!!
