Here is my problem...

The only e-mail address that I use is a Yahoo account. Why do I use Yahoo? Well back when I got my first e-mail address, a dial up ISP, they went out of business and I had to change my provider. Well, I have gone through a multiple providers and got tired of changing my e-mail address. So, I signed up with Yahoo and I pay Yahoo a few dollars a year to have Pop access. Since I've signed up with Yahoo, it doesn't matter where I am at, on what ISP, or on who's computer, I can access my e-mail. This makes it much more convenient for me.

Anyway, I am currently going through the FBI hiring process and I stumbled across this board. I have found a lot of helpful information and I felt like sharing some of my own experiences/information.

When I was unable to sign up... The first thing I tried was to contact an admin about joining. However, there is no way to contact an admin if you are not a member. All of the "contact us" or click here to e-mail the admin links are dead. So, I borrowed my father's e-mail address, it is an @att.net address, thinking that I could get in with that and then change my address. Well, I got in, but now I am unable to change my address. I don't want to fill up my father's inbox, or miss out on any announcents because of this.

I understand that you want to keep out certain trolls and people looking to get some free advertising and whatever else... but shouldn't there be some way around this. There has to be some way to verify that I am who I say I am.

I am sure there are other ways to do this, but here is just one... Perhaps I could send you a few cents via Paypal. This would show you that my e-mail address is verified along with my verified address. Possibly you could even create a dollar or two registration fee for those who use free e-mail addresses, this should keep out any trolls.

Anyway, please help me with this...

Thanks,
Matthew

BTW: You can contact me by e-mail at GoghUA@yahoo.com

We are not going to charge anyone. There is no way around the free email rule. We either allow free emails or we don't. We tried it in the past twice, and it was a mistake both times.

Given that there's no exception to the rule, it is still possible to surf the forums without using your email address. Click the "user cp" button and go to "Edit Options"...under "Messaging & Notification" you can set it so you never receive emails. You won't miss any announcements, as they're right here in this very forum. The only time I ever get email is when somebody sends me a PM. So as long as you check your PM box every once in a while, you ought to be able to do anything you want here without spamming your father.

That is what I had to do... I just turned off all the options to e-mail me.

Thanks

You can also set the PM's so you will be notified on the board when you receive one. You just need to keep your PM box cleared out and not let them stack up.
