If the usage is longer then ten years ago does it have to be included on an SF86?

My opinion, I would include it and let the BI Investigator line it out. Either way, it will come up during a poly if they have one, but that is just me. Don't want to come off as trying to hide anything.

I disagree with the new Postal Inspector (Congrads). I always answer the question that is asked not what I think they asked. If you do this once you become an 1811 you will get yourself in trouble (grand jury, court etc..). Follow the directions and answer the question, that’s it. If DOE wants to know more than they will request it with a supplemental questionnaire or the BI investigator will ask you in the interview. Normally during the TS interview you will be asked the foreever question anyways. When they ask you tell.

I agree with Tax987.

Answer the question on the SF-86 and if during the interview, poly etc.. there is a time in which you are asked to clarify or expand take the time to do so. Hope it helps! FXF

Ok, if you agree, then that means don't include it on the SF-86 as it falls outside of the time frame.

If you don't include it, becasue it is outside of the frame, what is there to explain.

So now we are back to the beginning. Include it and explain when asked, or be told by the BI Investigator that it is outside of the scope so don't worry about it.

Me personally, even if something is outside of the scope, during a Poly, I know I would be thinking about it, and in order to present a good explanation and not appear as if I'm trying to hide anything, I wold mention it on the SF-86, just so I can be sure to mention it during the poly, but that is just me.

Reading my post I did not clarify and maybe I should have given an example: If your usage falls outside of the coverage period on the sf-86 7/10 years you should not include it. You are answering honestly and there is no integrity issue.

If you sit down for the polygraph or a structured interview and are asked a question for example, (as mentioned by Tax987) have you ever used marijuana? or something open ended like Is there anything from your past that you feel would be important to discuss regarding your background investigation/application? Then I would take the time to explain the situation or usage. Just my take. Good Luck! FXF

What kind of Poly does DOE use?
