Sorry if spelled wrong, but those of you that have ever had one of thse know what I'm talking about.

I have a re-occuring Cyst on the top of my right wrist. Unless you apply direct pressure on it, I'm fine, however should I be required to do push ups it is murder. I can knock out at least a good 30 push ups before the pain becomes to much.

Are there any other remedies out there aside from banging my wrist against the wall. When it gets closer to game day, I have to resort to such extremes which from what I've been told is not too far off from how they used to remedy it, bang your wrist with a phone book or something like that.

Before I got off active duty I had another one, and prior to that, it was right before my first PTT for DEA. Prior to the PTT that was the first time I banged my wrist against the wall. Yes it hurts like hell but once that sac pops the pain cost by any direct pressure is also gone.

Anyway prior to getting of active duty the Doc tried some in house surgery, which consisted of sticking a needle inside the sac, to not only pop it, but to suck out the goop that is in it. When did not work he shut it full of something that ended in caine, I want to say lydocaine, that did not work either, so eventually banged it against the wall again, that was in September of last year.

I'm trying to figure out what could be causing this. I eat the same, work out the same. I wonder if stress has anything to do with it, does anyone know? I know I was stressing right before I got off active duty. I was stressing before I took my first PTT, as it was preceded by the Poly, and well, I'm stressing now about going to the USPIS academy.

It is still pretty small right now, but it still causes a lot of pain. The only thing I can think that could have caused this is that a few days ago, I worked out with some big dudes, and well they had me doing closed grip bench with 185 - 225lbs, and I did feel more pressure on my wrists than I usually do when I do regular bench.

Also, surgery is not an option, as there is no guarantee that it will not come back, so I figure why get cut up if it could come back.

Any advice (aside from don't stress, and stop spanking the monkey so much [I heard those already]) would be greatly appreciated.

Out here!!!

If they did use lidocaine, it was most likely to only relieve the pain. Lidocaine is most often used as a local anaesthetic, commonly applied to a site that is about to be stictched. I have no other suggestions, but figured I might be able to help you out a little with what your past treatment may have consisted of. Good luck.

Have you talked to anyone about acupuncture? Don't know if it would help but it looks like you have tried all the tricks of western medicine. As far as the pushups go, you might try doing them on your knuckles. As long as you are in grass you will be good to go. Or maybe try angling your hands out more to relieve the pressure.

Have any questions PM me.

When I lived in the barracks at Bragg, my air-conditioning unit leaked for over two years. I cleaned up the condensation everyday. Throughout the course of my stay, I must have breathed in mold/mildew spores and an infection in my lymph nodes developed. The infection was a type of cyst in the center of my armpit. I was Rx'd several types of anitbiotics. The cysts would go away, then began reappearing at a much more consistent rate as time progressed. At first they would last for ten or so days, then up to three weeks. It really sucked. They were tender and easily irritated. I was once scheduled for surgery to have it cut out, but it went away before my appointment, so the doctor sent me home. It came back several weeks later. When I ETS'd the Army, and got out of the mold infested barracks room, they went away for a while. About six months later I developed a very large one. I was at my wits end, until my fiance let me use some old form of antibiotic that she was prescribed by her dermatologist for acute acne, about 12 years prior. Even though it wasn't my Rx, and the expiration date had passed, I took them anyway. After about four days, while curling at the gym, the cyst ruptured. It oozed all night long. Made my sheets look like I had gone mad spanking the monkey. Anyway. It never came back. That was a little over five years ago.

Sorry, I can't remember the type of Rx she gave me. Maybe Amoxicillan?

Now I know that was a long story, so here is the short part. Maybe you should let a dermatologist take a look.

Good luck.

Is the USPIS the Postal Inspectors?

Get it "cored". Go to a doc in the box or your doc and have them core it. They simply go in and suck out the inside. It will come back, especially on the wrist, but that will take some time. You can find a doc to remove it surgically, but they will come back after a few years. Core = about 2 years. Removal = about 5-10 years. They are stress, caffiene, genetically related. The one on your wrist is most likely caused by a combination. My mother would get them there because of all the crocheting and needlepoint which is why I am familiar with them. My two cents. But, go to a doc in the box and pays your hundred bucks. I've done it many times. If you irritate it or "bang it against the wall", you could cause it to rupture, your wrist swell and then go to a doc for medicine. actually had a HUGE one on my ear with the background invetigator visiting. My doc took a big needle and cored it. Im fine now! BUT, don't piss it off cause it will win. Get rid of it.

Get it removed NOW.
My grandfather had one on the back of his head for years.
They cut it off and it grew back. The second time they cut it off, they must have got it all.
My brother had one on the back of his hand. He didnt have anything done for quite a while. He finally had it cut out when his hand didnt have the strength to open a car door. By that time, it had grown down into the tendons and muscles.
Do NOT put it off. Full recovery for my brother was 9 months with physical therapy.

Capt.....I had a cyst like you described as well. Painful it can be. The old method of treating it was bending your wrist and then popping the area that sicks up with a book. It can be drained as many have mentioned, but I had mine removed when I was 17. It made a small scar in the top of the wrist, but the cyst has not returned. Just remember to do the physical therapy they prescribe after it gets out of the splint.

Hey sorry I have been out of pocket.

The first few days at the academy, I did start to get a cyst. When it came close to the PT test, I just banged my wrist against the wall. The problem is, I think I banged my freaking wrist to hard as now I have a new pain in my wrist.

I have a ganglion cyst on my left wrist and so far it hasn't impeded my ability to do my pushups or pullups. For some reason, in the past it use to make it harder for me to push out more pull-up reps. However, I trained with weight gloves at first, then eventually removed them, which I think helped.

However once in awhile the wrist gets sore. I wouldn't recommend using a wall. Perhaps a book. I've never tried that, but I would think you would only need to hit it hard enough to bust the cyst. You don't want to cause any damage to your wrist.

My doc told me awhile ago he could remove the cyst, however there's always the possibility it'll regrow. It sucks b/c it means I just gotta live with it.

Do a search on www.webmd.com for ganglion cyst.

Good luck with your cyst while at the academy. Suck it up, or fake it as best you can. I know you'll make it..., you seem determined.
