Uf dah!

I am looking into the Rapid CIty PD as a place I would like to apply when I finish school. I found out the physical fitness requirements, and found I have a long road ahead of me!

Push ups: 29 in > 1 minute

Sit ups: 38 in > 1 minute

1.5 mile run: 12.51 max. time

1 Rep bench press: 99% of body weight

1 Rep leg press: 183% of body weight

There is also a flex test, but I don't totally understand it.

The above is the entry physical fitness test, as well as the annual retest, also to include a 3 minute step test where you step on and off a box for 3 minutes, and your pulse cannot exceed 147.

The above information is for males in the age bracket of 20 - 29. I am almost 28. It is possible I would not apply until I am 30, which changes the requirements to 24, 35, 13.36 min, 88% and 165%, respectively.

Oh, and BP cannot exceed 160/100. That's the only criteria I meet right now! ;)

Me thinks it is time to get the fat arse moving, eh? Egad!

for increasing your scores?
I've read a lot on this board about different theories but, I've yet to see someone list a routine.
I'm in the process of trying to put together something for myself now.

These are fitness requirements that must be met to be hired by the department as well as to be met annually. Taken from the RCPD website.

Wow ..that sounds pretty intense.

I always wondered why a lot of agencies don't have physical tests. We have all seen the 400 lb officers out there .... I hope I don't fall into that roll (pun intended). lol

I understand that :)
What I was curious to know was what your "workout routine" is going to look like, in order to prep for this.
I too am facing an uphill battle at this time in prepping for a PT test, and am trying to put together a DAILY routine.

Ah. Sorry. ;)

I don't have a routine yet. Still in the building stages. Trying to change diet (tough to do when time is short) right now. Membership to the YMCA too, but time becomes a problem here too. :o

Any suggestions?

Found another requirement at a different department.

Swin 2 lengths of the pool (I am waiting to find out if that is an olympic pool or what) and tread water/float for 5 minutes.

Damn. Still more evidence of needing to lose weight, and a fair portion at that!

I looked at Virginia State Police's site ..they said I should be no more than 209 lbs...I'm 6'2", 220 ..i know I need to lose a little bit of weight, but 209?

Can you get a waiver if you have a lot of muscle weight? I was a fairly serious weight lifter years ago, so I did bulk up a lot.

Depts will take into account that one is 220 at 6'2" with very little body fat. Its only proper that they should...
