Not too long ago i saw a post by someone copying final orders for DEA recruits as they are leaving for BAT. Among the things mentioned were:
TRAINEES MUST BRING ONE PAIR OF BROKEN-IN MID-CALF BLACK COMBAT STYLE BOOTS. THE HIGH-TECH LEATHER/NYLON MESH COMBO ARE ACCEPTABLE. THESE BOOTS ARE PART OF THE DEA TRAINING ACADEMY UNIFORM AND WILL BE WORN DAILY.

Now my question is: what exactly constitutes mid-calf to them? To me that sounds like a very tall pair of boots. Are we talking 10" Danners, or is an 8" acceptable? I'm assuming there is probably a preferred boot for trainees, what are we looking at? Strikers, Acadias? Other makes and models?

I am still a good way from the academy and as such a good way from buying boots, but it is nice to be prepared a little ahead of time in case i do actually get in.

I'd say it depends on your leg. Some people could get away with an 8" boot, others a 10"

As for the brands, I'm sure you have heard the, "take care of your feet, and they'll take care of you"

That said, don't buy cheap boots, and try on lots of different pairs to see which ones fit your feet the best.
