Any special agents out there that have recommendations on keeping a strong marriage while at the academy and during the career. I start in Quantico in January. Any suggestions appreciated.

Also, what effect do you see in having a leo career and raising children?

Thanks.

I'm not an FBI SA, But I am an SA with AFOSI. I've been away from home a lot over the past couple of years. I have 2 kids also. The best advice I can give is to keep in contact as much as possible, weather it be by phone or email. Even if it is only for a few minutes a day. My last LONG trip was 7 months. It wasn't fun, but we did fine. We tried to talk every day, usually only for 2-3 minutes to let her know everything was ok. The best thing you can do on the phone is listen. Remember she is the one home with the kids and dealing with the problems. Flowers once in a while are good too.

As far as kids go, you will miss some things, you just have to try and be there for them when you are home.

Good Luck

Buy a copy of Ellen Kirschner's "I Love A Cop". YOU read it and give it to your wife. You can make the mental change from "Cop" to "Special Agent". It works.
