View Full Version : Red light for writing notes at night
If anyone can assist, I am trying to find a source to purchase a flashlight lense cover or bulb for a flash light or a light that can clip onto a notepad so that I can write in the dark. I am looking for something that will not illuminate the interior of the car when working nights, so my preference is red.
I am not looking for a "all in one" clipboard with a red light, more so just a red bulb for a small/mini flashlight or something that has a red light with a swivel head that can clip onto a notepad etc...
Any ideas would be appreciated. All I have been able to find is the "all in one" clipboard etc... That is too bulky for my needs.
Thank you in advance.
A good place to search for red bulbs would be a motorcycle shop. I know a lot of guys put clear lenses on their blinkers and put yellow or red bulbs in to stay legal.
Not sure if they'll have the right size/watt bulb, but it's worth a try.

I have a smaller mag light which came with a couple different lenses and a rubber piece which fit around the top of the light to hold the lens in place. I got it as a gift, but I would think they have them available in stores too.
Or, just find red plastic or something and cut out the size you need. Find a way to adhere it temporarily to the light.

Pelican makes a mini light which can be had with a red lens and a fiber optic piece with a 90 degree bend so you can clip the light on your shirt pocket an it lights up the area in front of you. I've had these before but don't know the best place to get them, try Galls.
Thank you for the responses......
When I was a cop our laptops had little red lights attached to them on a bendable wire. Maybe you should try a computer store.
I bought a very small red LED light that has both a "constant on" or "push button" action. It has a little clip that you can clip on to your shirt pocket and it will illuminate your lap. Or you could clip to a clip board.
I bought it at CompUSA, I saw it in the checkout line near the register. It was $9.95.
It works well, and the red light cut downs on night blindness as well.
Here's a link to a light nearly identical to the one I bought

Thank you to all that replied.
I found exactly what I was looking for, but I have to buy the red bulb separately.
I thought I would share it with those of you that might be interested.

Maybe a Surefire with a red lens attachment? Possibly from the way you describe it. I have the Surefire 6P with that attachment and love it.
