View Full Version : 2 Prescription Drug Related Issues

I'm curious about 2 issues:

1.) An old roommate left behind (by mistake) a bottle of prescription pain medication in our medicine cabinet. He moved out and later a friend visited my home, asked if I had any aspirin or tylenol, and proceeded to my medicine cabinet (with my permission). I told him to grab whatever he wanted. He grabbed my old roommates prescription pain medicine - 2 pills. This medication was prescription based and although I'm not sure, I believe it was scheduled; it may have been Vicodin. After discovering this, I gave the remaining bottle back to my old roommate.

Is this considered illegally transporting or aiding in the transport of illegal drugs? When I am polygraphed, do I go into detail about this or am I paranoid?

2.) I used pain medication (non-scheduled, but prescription) once many years ago. I did not know at the time it was prescription based, but that point is moot since I could not legally access this medication without a prescription.

Again, how do I address this with the polygrapher?

I have heard that if you mention such things with your polygrapher, you're toast, but I do not want to lie. I am applying with the FBI.

Sincerely,
Jack G.

Yes, you're being paranoid on both counts. Explain it like you just did the first chance that you get, and you'll be fine. But make sure you tell the truth and the whole truth. So many people seem to think that a harmless omission might be justified in THEIR case, and then when it all comes out later and causes a problem they wish they had just told the whole story in the first place.

As far as not being able to discuss things like this with your polygrapher, that's not true. The real problem is when you bring things up with your polygrapher that you omitted earlier.

If that's the only thing that you're worried about in your background, then you're in good shape.

I'd like to hear a few other people's points of view on this. I'm applying for the position of special agent with the FBI. Are you sure these prescription drug issues aren't/won't be a problem?

JackG: While I appreciate your honesty and concern, I agree that this is not a big issue. You did not knowingly take a controlled substance and did not (in your friend's case) sell or dispense a controlled substance.

What your roomate left in the med cabinet was not your responsibility. You were a roomate, not a parent there. \

Your explanation on this issue is fine and would also be fine to explain to your polygrapher prior to the exam. No sweat. DM

I'm going nuts over here. I didn't even think about this type of scenario. I once gave a friend a few prescription pain pills because he wasn't feeling well. Does this mean I distributed illegal drugs?

Somebody please tell me this isn't so! I didn't even think about this until now.

Yes, you guys are toast. Sorry

There is no one currently in law enforcement that has ever taken a prescription pill from anyone else, nor have they ever given out a prescription pill to anyone else. Especially their wife.

Sarcasm, in case you hadn't caught on.

It's not a big deal. There would be no law enforcement in this country if people were DQ'ed because of this.
