I'm looking into getting a pair of Danner boots to break in before I go to FLETC for ICE (anyone know when I'll be getting my call? :huh?: )
I've never really had boots before, except for some backpacking boots...and am not that big on having my ankles bound up in tall boots.
That said, anyone got suggestions for what to get? What I'd need once I get to my office...where ever that'd be. I'm guessing it'll depend a little, on where I end up...but I thought I'd ask now.
Right now I am looking at Arcadia 8" s with no insulation. Or the Stryker 45s (possibly with the fake steal toe)...
Also, thoughts on the usefulness of the Stryker 30s?
Thanks :D

I have a pair of the Stryker 8" and a pair of the Stryker 45 GTX's.
So far no complaints. I use the 45's for wear with street clothes and the 8" for tactical work. Both are very comfortable and durable. Acadia's are a little heavy for wear around the "Center of Excellence". Just my 2 cents.

You'll find Danner Acadias really hot and heavy for use at FLETC, especailly during the summer months. I'd recommend a pair of light weight boots like Hi-tecs or the Ultimate SWAT boots for use there. You'll mainly be walking around in them, over pavement, be as comfortable as you can be.
Danner Acadias are the way to go for boots. Like Ken said I found them too hot for everyday wear in S GA so I ended up buying a pair of black tennis shoes and calling it good. The strykers, while comfortable, are not resoleable and made overseas if that matters to you. You might want to see where you are stationed before you buy an un/insulated pair.
Good luck with ICE,

Thanks for the tips. I guess then, I'll look into the Arcadia's after FLETC, and get something for when I'm there.
Do they have to be black (for FLETC)?

Ted,
As of last year, Customs used to require black shoes for CBES but I don't know about ICESAT. You can't go wrong with black, just get somethng that is comfortable to stand around in.

The Acadias are too damn hot and uncomfortable for daily FLETC wear. DEA issues them to the CLET's and there's lots of bitching about breaking them in. I'd look for something alot more flexible for daily wear. I've still got two pair and never wear them!

I have used Arcadias for about 3 years here in Arkansas and love them. I haven't found them to be hot, I like them.

I just bought a pair of the Striker GTX 8" goretex/insulated boot, and I love them. Need the insulation for these northeast winters. I'll be looking to get the 4.5 for spring/summer wear.

I wore Danners for years... right up until I went into a Red Wing store. I bought the non-steel toe all leather duty boot. It fits better, and is manufactured better (I feel) than the Danner and is about the same price. It is a speed lace setup. The boot has triple stitching and a Vibram lug sole. The only thing I do not like is how tall the upper is - I just don't late the top hooks. The boot fits me better overall with a little more room in the toe.
