Hello,
could I get some advice on full time jobs? I am applying for full time emt-b jobs tommrow, I also teach aerobics and personal train. Will I realistically be able to do these two jobs? I don't know how shifts work....i heard anywhere from 8-24 hours.
Thanks, Meri

I think it depends on the area. In chicago most of the private companies have either 13 or 24 hour shifts

I would say that it all depends on you. If you work a 24 and are up all night...could you teach a class?
I worked on a BLS rig for 6 months...I once was up for 72 hours on calls....on the 4th day I couldn't sleep at all, but the on the fifth I slept for 24 hours strait...only broken up by restroom breaks and a bowl of cereal.
Its alot of fun. Just learn to laugh at what you see, smell and hopefully don't taste.:bounce:

Thanks for the tip, I will hopefully be able to teach class! I need a new car and have to save up for medic school. I just got hired ful time up here in Massachusetts, so I will keep you posted on what happens. There is a mandatory 24 hour shift once a week.
Super Fun! Meri
You'll need to check to see exactly what your hours will be, as every agency is different. When you're doing 24 hour shifts you'll be allowed to sleep, but be aware there will be times when sleep isn't an option. You may be so busy you'll barely have time to tinkle, much less take a nap!
