View Full Version : Cure for Pepper Spray
I have gotten sprayed two days ago for the third time. I was wondering if there is anything that helps cure the pain of pepper spray. I heard milk in the eyes works a little but I didnt know if there were any other ways to fight the pain of pepper spray??
Pray for the best, train for the worst
Lots of water to the affected area. Pepper spray usually isn't used in close quarters when you 'dog pile on the rabbitt'. Pehaps that officer who did the spraying needs some 'retraining'. I have found that a blast to the locker combination lock just before they arrive at work gets the point across. It is amazing how many times someone will touch their face, rub their eyes, etc after opening the locker.....

I haven't heard of using milk before. I've used water the few times I've gotten sprayed and it works fine.

OC is usually an oil, if you wash it off with a mild detergent such as baby shampoo instead of strait water it will speed your detox time. I keep a pack of "Johnson's moisturizing gentle cleansing cloths" handy. These are disposable cloths impregnated with baby wash. You get them wet, wipe off the oc (very carefully, don't spread it), rinse the cloth and wipe off the baby wash. I got weird looks at my last dept until a bunch of us got peppered (common in cell extractions) and I was there with my little wipes.
Works for me anyway, John
BAck when I was an OC instructor with my old dept, I used to keep Johnson and Johnson No more tears baby shampoo handy. Used it for training and for suspects. I liked it becaued it would get the oil off and you were able to get into your eyes without further irritaion. Not only that it melled pretty good.
I've found that the best cure for OC is to keep the #$#$ out of your eyes! hahaha
When I got exposed to it during training, I was literally blind for an hour and for 45minutes I had extreme difficulty breathing. They almost toned out EMS for me, not fun at all.......

Lots and lots of water and Baby shampoo.
I am not on the street yet...but i have been through three different types of training academies where i had to be sprayed in all three. I hear milk helps get the pain out of your eyes....i personally didnt try it but thats what i heard....i was just curious to see if there was something other than soap, water, time and air....thanks
The only cure I have is to bitch and moan for about a half an hour till the pain goes away!

I would go with flushing the face and eyes with LOTS of water. I think a running hose works best. Last time I was sprayed, I tested out some DeCon or some other type of handiwipe. It didn't work at all. Water and a breeze and about 30-45 minutes works great.
When I was a DUSM, another Deputy sprayed some bandit in the cellblock. The bandit deconned himself using the cell toilet.

I think I would avoid milk at all costs. Milk is loaded with bacteria, and bacteria in the eye is a no-go.

LOL Sigy. I also heard that if all else fails, call for "mommy".:D
I just got sprayed last week in my academy. I had been sprayed before for a security company, but it was only with the 1% stuff (this was the 10% stuff).
We used buckets of water, baby shampoo, and large fans. Some people used milk. It was relieving to submerge your face in water, but as soon as you pulled it out, BAM, the pain comes back. Same with the fans. Feels good, but as soon as you move away from it...yowsa!
I think that a running hose and breeze/fan is the best thing you can do. I "heard" that if you duck your head in the same pail of water, the OC just gets mixed in the water and then you keep contaminating yourself. I don't know if the shampoo helped, it still took me an hour to get over the severe effects.
Like they say in the classroom training, people have different recovery times. They even said that darker skinned people have a somewhat easier time with it. Well I'm as fair as a glass of milk...and I looked like I had been burned at the stake (that's how it felt too).
