Well I'm in the market for a new Handgun. I'm going to be starting an academy soon and have liked the H&K USP 40's. Wondering what people think of them. Also I'm not sure if I should get the Compact or full size. I have small hands but understand the only difference is the barrel length. I'm not fond of the 9mm. I carried a 9mm in the army and never really liked it. I always though I was carring a 22. I don't want a 45 due to ammo capacity issues. Any opinions? Also I have shot a S&W 4006 and liked it too. Just looking for options for now.
Sorry I cant help with the H&K but thought you might enjoy this picture from H&K - can you tell me whats wrong?

I have the H&K USP .40 at home and I love it. By far the best handgun I have ever fired. It just fits my hand. I don't have the compact, which cost more and so it fell along the lines of why I own more pants than shorts, I am not going to pay more for less material. But if I would of bought to carry (work issues the Barretta 9mm) I would have gone with the compact. Best suggestion is go to a range that rents handguns to fire and see if they have the H&K and put a few rounds through one. I have fired many handguns this way, it is like buying a car, test drive before you buy.

The barrel looks bent. But it also looks like the photo was doctored up.

Thats a good idea I hadn't thought of that. Guess I should try and find a range near me that does that.

Well duh it would help if the rounds were loaded in the mag right.:D
FastDak911 :
I have an HK USP-9 and SIG P-226 (we're only permitted to carry .9mm here - larger caliber's are "inhumane" *L!*). Anyway, been very happy with both and shot both (incl. USP-40 extensivelly).
Would recommend trying out the SIG P-226 ST and SIG P-229R in .40S&W as well. Both have 1913 rails on the dustcover, another bonus over the HK USP-series (unless you like the UTL, but not an issue if you don't need a tactical-light).
Nothing wrong with the HK USP-40 Compact either. I prefer the .45ACP in the compacts however.
As for the picture of the HK and mags loaded backwards, that's what you get for a photographer that doesn't have any firearms knowledge... Bad advertising, so much for "no compromise"
Stay safe, and carry what works best for YOU!
Cheers!

I have owned both the full size and the compact USP 40's, both are fine handguns. There is much more different between the two than barrel length, in fact no large parts, not even the magazines, are interchangeable between the two sizes. Shoot both, pick the one that you can control shooting duty loads. Good luck, stay safe.

Thank you for the advise so ast and I will take a look at them. For now I guess I'll head off to work and keep dispatching until that day comes to go to an academy. Again thank you all.
if your going to get an usp get the usp 45, it has only one round last the than usp 40, if you start liking the idea of hk45's take a look at the tactical and expert

OC,
HK was the first firearms manufacturer to include accessory rails on its pistols back in '97. The USP's have always had them.
Stay safe,
Ken
I've shot a 4006 tsw a few times while shooting with a friend. I really like the gun, it fits my hand well, etc. That'll be my next purchase.

Copy that - I love my USP, and the fact that one can carry it cocked-and-locked. While I'm okay with the UTL, my first UTL didn't survive three courses at the HK International Training Division.
I'm surprised HK hasn't made the decision to change the rails of the USP due to the demand for 1913 rails as a standard feature on majority of handguns. HK is offerring the P2000 "American" with a 1913 rail.
Frankly I'd really like a SureFire on my USP, but not with a rail mounting system as on the Nitrolon series.
Guess we'll have to wait it out and see where they go from there.
As for the USP-45 Tactical mentioned above, if I had my choice that would be my high-capacity .45ACP of choice for tactical work. If I could carry a .45 here, this would be my carry gun. One day... if only we could convince the brass... :D
I carry the H&K USP Compact 40 cal, Law Enforcement Model only and it seems to be a great gun for me.
Holds 12 plus 1
Easy to conceal with the pancake holster and no trouble passing the range with it.

I prefer the P2000 over the USP.
Check it out

I'll look into the P2000. I saw one the other day and hadn't really paid attention to it.
