I was just wondering what weapon they issue you. I am planning on purchasing a handgun in the near future, to start shooting again (going on 3 years out of the Air Force without shooting), and would like to get one as close to what they use as possible. I am hoping to be moving down to that area in about 18 months and trying to get on a department soon after I get there.
Any information would be a great help!
Also if anyone has any information on the departments on the western side of the city (Cary, Apex, Holly Springs) please let me know. I have checked out the web pages for most of them and there is little information. Last thing… I see there are a ton of houses for sale in the Cary triangle :o … can anyone tell me why that is. Bad neighborhoods, crime anything…
Thanks a lot!!
:D
Crime is certainly not a problem in the areas you mentioned. Their crime rate for their size is minimal, especially Cary. I think it was ranked in the top 5 in the country for safety. I can't help you on the local scene for law enforcement since my interests lay in the Federal arena. Let me know if you have any more questions on the area, I work in Raleigh.
P.S. I was in Minot with the AF back in '95-'99

the reason housing is plentiful is the RTP area is home to a number of hi tech, bio tech, and pharma companies and start ups.
Most if not all have been laying off for the last few years.
I know people there and it is starting to pick up...but slowly.
I don't know what guns they use but, Cary has more police cars than officers, and they leave them parked all over town.
It is a very low crime area.

Virgil is dead on the reason why you see so many houses around the RTP area for sale.
I used to know a guy who worked for Cary PD. He always spoke very highly of the PD and it's opportunities for advancement. I have also heard from other officers around the state who spoke very highly of Cary PD.
I think out of all the agencies you listed, Cary is one of the highest paid. Raleigh PD pays more, but for a department the size of Cary, the pay is good.
Cary has a low crime rate in comparison to sorrounding cities. In 1999 Cary was named as the fastest growing city in NC. With all the high-tech dot.com folks leaving, it may have slowed.
I can not remember what Raleigh PD carries..for some reason I think it was either Beretta or S&W .40's....not 100% sure.
Okay, now you made me home-sick :crying:
