I thought that the U.S. Customs uniforms changes since DHS. I worked at the ATL airport when it was USCS was under the treasury dept. I was driving through a friends neighborhood today and I saw an inspector checking his mail, but he was wearing the navy blue uniform with the patch on the sleave that said U.S. Customs. Not Customs and Border Protection?

So have the uniforms or patch changed??? or just the badge??

p.s. I love the old unforms so it would be great if they havnt changed

Thanks

Too sum it up quick, Legacy Customs uniforms did not change with DHS. INS and Agriculture converted to the Customs' Blues.

ALL patches did change to CBP however due to supply, they are not on all uniforms yet.

ALL Badges also changed and have not as yet been issued.

What about the guys that just started?
Are they wearing the new stuff??

When are you required to start wearing all the same thing?

Thuman,

All CBP officers coming out of FLETC are wearing the new uniforms (being the old USCS uniforms with the new CBP patch). If I remember correctly we are supposed to be all in the new uniform by the middle of this year. I am currently an all BDU uniform (Seaport location)

BDU uniforms????

I work in corrections and we wear BDU pants...same thing??

So all seaport locations wear BDU's, with what shirt?

Also, do they give you a yearly allowance for gear like local law enforcement? (for boots, belt, etc)

Thanks
Brian

Yea a full BDU uniform if you are in the office and a t-shirt and BDU pants when you are out of the office at the port working.

Yea $500 every October 1st when the new fiscal year starts.

With your allowance, do you have a choice about what "brand" or type of gear you get. Like if you prefer a certain boot thats more comfortable...or maybe a certain cuff case.

do you get to choose?

You can use you allowance for various types of jackets, sweaters, vests etc.. , different class types of uniforms, several different types of boots. They just made the Danner Acadias available for us and thats what I wear everyday.

Duty gear is standard (all safariland gear) and cannot be changed for another brand.

To follow up, you don't get the allowance as money. It is as an account with the Customs uniform supplier. You can only spend your uniform allowance at the uniform supplier and so obviously on stuff that they sell. Regulations prohibit the use of non-issue / uniform supplier items but whether or not that is enforced depends on your location / boss. Our duty rig is an issued item and is given to you not ordered from the uniform supplier.
Good Luck once again, not that you need it, John
