I have to pick up myself a pair of duty boots for work s a patrol officer within the next few weeks...So i was curious to see what kind of options are really best for them or if anyone had good experience.
-Water proof? Definitely necessary? Would it be worthwhile in the Midwest area with the snows and rain we get.
-Safety toe? You find this useful?
-Any recommendations for brands? Or brands to stay away from?
I prefer the Magnums. Pretty comfy yet durable, never had a problem with them. They're not too expensive like Danner's and I go through a pair of them in about a year. They come in steel toe and waterproof. Sidezips are a definite must.
Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner, Danner..........etc. You won't go through them in a year and they are quite the comfy boot. :)

Oh yeah, the guys at my work love them and have been wearing them for years. The only problem is my dept will only plop down a certain amount each year for boots. Not enough to buy Danners. If they paid for them, I would buy a pair.
I 2nd the Danners. They cost a little more than the average boots but they out perform all opher boots I have tried. I wear Arcadias and love them.

Your department actually pays for your boots? OMG I am jealous. Now I really know how cheap my department is. LOL. :(
The extra monies is nothing compared to quality and comfort. I have 3 pair of Danners and rotate along, And yes my department buys my boots :). I opted to get a third pair of insulated, Blackhawk II's for my departments discount of $120.
Go with the Danner, worth every penny. My first pair of Danners went 11 years. The first 3 being foot assignment in a large industrial area, the next 8 in a car. I'd still have them except my foot grew a half size. I then sold them on ebay for $60! I currently have 4 pair. 1 pair of uninsulated Acadia's for when I have to get back in uniform, and when I do enforcement. 1 pair of insulated Acadia's also for enforcement during the winter months. 1 pair of Explorer's for my off duty casual wear, and 1 pair of insulated Super Rain Forest for those really nasty days off duty. The Super Rain Forest is definately over the top in weight and construction. They make my Acadias feel like sneakers.
