View Full Version : Hobble
Anyone know where to get the old style hobble. The one that was a nylon rope with brass hooks on both ends. I have one. They are great for tying feet up. Or work as a dog leash/ choker. These are the most common but I am sure they have been used for others. I have one but a dog chewed on it. I have one of the flat nylon webbing ones from RIPP but I can not find a good way to carry it on my body, so when I need it, it is always in the car. The braided nylon raps around my boot and hooks to its self. Secure and with you when you need it.
Remember back in the good ole days when you could hog tie, then a couple of people went and died from position asphyxiation.

Without getting into too much of a debate, the Professor from San Diego who coined the term "Positional Asphyxiation" was proven wrong, and had botched and.or incomplete data. It's more of a myth, the way he described it. That's NOT to say that it can't happen with a host of factors...
Anyways, I always liked the braided leather hobbles, but can't find them. I have a RIPP nylon hobble, and have used it a few times...Not a bad item, and it's washable.

I have a braided nylon one that is probably very similar to your leather one. I have the ripp one but it is in the patrol bag and never with me when I need it. An officer I work with gave me the nylon one as he had two of them. If I only used it for the creature with two legs I would not need to replace it.
As for the dead people I don’t know. I have a policy that I have to go by. I can’t "hog tie". That is not to say I can’t tie there legs up and use the hobble as a handle. I just can’t tie it to the cuffs.
Thanks again
I believe Safariland made the hobble you're describing. I believe they discontinued the item due to lawsuits.
