I was reading another post about carrying extra ammo and it got me thinking. I usually carry a 5 shot S&W .357mag in an ankle holster when off duty and quite a bit while on duty. I've tried to find ways to carry some extra ammo on me, but haven't come up with a good way to carry a speed loader comfortably and concealable when I'm wearing slacks and a tucked in polo shirt.

Question is, what options are there for carrying a few extra rounds. I saw something about speed strips but am not very familiar with how they work. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

My wife and I have used Bianchi Speed Strips to carry spare ammo for our S&W .38 Specials for several years. The strips hold 6 .38 or .357 rounds by the rims in a straight line. There is a textured tab on one end of the flexible rubber (plastic?) strip. The weapon is loaded two rounds at a time. Insert the rounds about 2/3 of the way into the chamber and peel the strip away.

The strips lay flat in your pocket, or several companies make belt pouches for them. They should be inspected frequently because eventually they wear out. I recently had one break, but it was over 10 years old. They come in packs of two, and usually cost less than $10.

I agree with davemm14 in the Bianchi speed strips. They will lay flat in your pocket and make concealment easy. A heck of a lot easier than carrying around speed loaders.

A couple of different firms (Galco, Bianchi) make ankle carriers to wear on the opposite ankle your revolver is on. This can carry several speed strips and/or cuffs. It also nicely balances out the weight on the gun leg.

I use on to carry an extra mag for my G27. DM

I too would recommend an ankle pouch. The combo of a mag and cuff on the opposite ankle from my G23 keeps the "Pimp Walkin" effect down.
