View Full Version : Florida Hurricanes
Anyone from Florida dealing with Charlie, Francis, Ivan, and Jeanne? I'm curious how some other agencies might be handling the current situation in order to avoid burnout and all out insanity. Shift length and hours, days off, and so on...
We currently work 12 hour shifts, 2 on , 2 off and every other weekend; this was even before the season so its just fine for us. When the storms rolled through the Keys, we went A/B: 12 on 12 off, straight through, most of the Dept. evacuated so we were bare bones for a time but now we are back to normal.
A friend on the SO up north was working 12’s, 2 on 2 off straight through the week. He just crashes at the end of the shift. Calls have picked up and they are typical of the dregs who crawl out after bad things: looters, con artists and then the typical hot, tired and often drunk domestics. Only major change has been 2 man units, before it is always single man units.
