We lost an officer today. He was two years from retirement, and had gone work in the Property Department within the last couple of years. You'd think that not working the road anymore he would have been safe.

He was killed today by a drunk driver. She fled the scene, and they arrested her at her house. His wife was in the car with him, and has been released from the hospital.

Last month the son of our Warrants Clerk shot himself in the head, and we had to send out Search and Rescue to find his body. The clerk was supposed to come back to work for the first time tomorrow.

I don't know how much more we can take.

Thanks you guys. We need all the thoughts we can get right now. Our morale had fallen even before this, because so many people were quitting for various reasons. I've been with these guys nearly eight years, and I've honestly never seen it this bad.

His funeral was the other day, and it was wonderful to see the turnout. We thought he would have laughed at all the pomp and circumstance that happened 'just for him'. Our neighboring town came in and gave him a full, shiny honor guard. Colorado State Patrol officers stood at every intersection, giving the hearse a full salute as he went past. It was very moving, and really neat to see 'the family' turnout.

Thanks to everyone..

Sorry to hear about your officer. It's hard to go to work when a friend dies and even harder to see them at the funeral home. May God watch over you
and your fellow officers and help you through these hard times.
