So as all of you have seen and heard, the crown vic's have a little bit of the pinto's soul in them. They explode when hit from behind with great force.

So what is the alternative? The impala? The intrepid? I was just reading about the Dodge New Charger, which is basically a doge magnum in a sedan form. I had heard about the Magnum having a police model called the enforcer but other than k-9 or supervisors vehicle I couldn't see it being used too much. Now looking at the new charger with 350hp rwd this might be the answer. Priced about the same as the interceptor unless it has terrible legroom or exploding problems I can't help but see it as a viable contender, especially when it is scheduled to roll out in late 05'.

Thoughts?

I was wondering about the new Ford Fivehundred, available awd (nice for the rockies) 300hp v6, as big inside as a crown vic (but much nicer), wheelbase as long as a crown vic but overall length about as long as a taurus. That, for me, would be ideal....

Part of the problem is that most companies just take a regular civilian model, maybe throw some bigger brakes on it, tone down the trim, replace the cloth and carpet with vinyl, then call it a police car. They don't last long because they are not engineered to be police cars. What should happen is that the industry should build these cars from the ground up, like the Crown Vic PI or the old Caprice 9C1, which Chevy got an extra added bonus of tweaking these into the very popular Impala SS. There is enough of a market between police departments and other "fleet" users such as taxi companies for heavy use designs.
